Winning a professional championship is a milestone achievement in any athlete’s life. Many will fight for years in hopes of overcoming the odds and competition, as reaching the pinnacle of the sport requires maturity and a solid understanding of the situation at hand. And once this point is reached, you begin to fight off the advances from the next wave of talent.

The harshness of the situation only makes Ken Roczen’s newly anointed statues as 2014 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross 450 Class Champion even more impressive. We’ve expected the twenty-year old German to excel since a very young age, especially since his resume is already dotted by MX2 titles from the FIM MXGP World Championship and a list of wins from everywhere on the planet, but still expected some growing pains in his first-ever 450 season. Admittedly exhausted during the seventeen-round Monster Energy Supercross Series, the Red Bull KTM rider focused his Aldon Baker-overseen training program at lasting through an entire summer around the United States. He claimed control of the point standings at the second round of the series in Sacramento, California, and ran the red plate until the final lap in Tooele, Utah. Although the margin between he and teammate Ryan Dungey shrank midway through the summer, Roczen rallied through the last two weekends of the season and did exactly what was necessary to take the title.

Because few of us will ever experience the rigors of a Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship race from the saddle, let alone have a shot at taking the title, we live vicariously through the GoPro footage filmed in during the final moto of the year at Miller Motorsports Park.
