Round 3 is now in the books and Mother Nature continues to be MoM’s biggest sponsor, blessing the Crow Hill Event with perfect weather yet again. 75 degrees and a clear blue sky greeted the riders on race morning.
There was speculation that the track would be unrideable due to the huge rainstorm all day Friday and Friday evening. On Saturday the track was, in fact, a muddy mess. But the Crow Hill staff, led by owners Rick and Rosanne Marshall (parents of national number 340, Robbie Marshall), dialed the track in to perfection for Sunday’s race. The track boasted a true outdoor style track with lots of elevation, off cambers, and fun, safe jumps.
In our “Larger class, defending Fat Boy Champion Matt Gronowicz (74), and owner of Two Feet South, earned the win on the day and now has a 3 point lead over Dave Hutchins (909) for the Series Championship. This has become a knock down drag out brawl between these two — you would think they are fighting over hot dogs, not race wins. Third on the day went to Morgan Jeleniowski (815), who also happens to sit third in the points.
In the Yoots class, Canadian Kaven Benoit (911) owned this 15-20 year old division, followed by teammate and fellow hockey lover Marco Genereux (71). Third on the day was Evan Arnold (68), who now sits atop the leader board with an 11-point lead in the series going into Round 4.
The Middle Age class is all about Billy Ainsworth (798). Billy won the overall at Round 3, putting him in charge of this 21-29 year old class with a 6-point lead over second place runner Shawn Lavoie (112). Shawn battled with Billy all day long but could only salvage second place. Matt Gronowicz (74) came in third on the day. It is worth noting that Shawn’s Brother, Chris (11), sits third in points for the title.
Defending Champion Jay Ablaza (470) remains undefeated this year in the Senior Class and has a commanding lead on the series with a 30-point lead. “Jolly Dave Hutchins (909) took a strong second at Round 3 and actually battled with Jay for a good part of the race. Jacques Gallant (901) rounded out the top three in this over 30 class.
The Modified Class took a slight turn after Round 3 with the absence of long time MoM contender Cody Madore (127). Thomas Healy (440) swapped moto wins with brother Jay (93) coming out on top for the overall, but Jay leads in the series standings by a mere 2 points over Thomas. Pete Walck (912) grabbed a spot on the podium for the first time this year with an impressive third place ride, moving him up to third in the points in this 88cc class.
In the 10/12 Open, Canadian Kaven Benoit (911) came out on top with an impressive ride, beating local hero and defending Unlimited Champion, Todd Chrusciel (76), who finished in second. However, Todd rode smart, realizing that a second was good enough to maintain his points lead. Canada’s Marco Genereux (71) came back to the series with a strong third place finish which put him back up to second in the series tied with Tim Ryan (5). Don’t count this fast Canadian out for the championship!
In the Poor Boy Class, Andy Young (465) rebounded from a poor finish at Round 2 to win the class and now has a 2 point lead in the series over Brian Rebello (18), who took third in this stock 50 class. Second place went to Brendon Johnson (320). The Crow Hill track got so rough that almost all of the Poor Boy riders got pretty beat up with several machines having to be pushed off.
The Limited Class has a new points leader but a familiar face — Jay Ablaza (470). Jay took the moto win and now sits tied for first in the series with Peter Walck (912), who came in behind Jay in this stock 110 class. Third place, as well as third in points, is Hutch Motorsports owner, Dave Hutchins (909).
The 10 Rockstar class saw a new winner at Round 3. Coming out of a deep funk from the first two rounds, Joshua Hayden put his Honda on the top spot with the moto win in this 10 Pro class. Joshua now sitts third in points for the series and only 6 points back from the leader Jason Healy (93), who took third place at Round 3 behind brother Tom (440). Tom is second in the points. With only 6 points separating the three, and the winner going to Mini Moto SX in Vegas or the Sunshine Classic in Orlando, this is sure to be a solid class to watch.
The 12 Rockstar class was, again, all Kaven Benoit (911). Billy Ainsworth (798) finished behind him in second. Billy now has a 21-point lead and has positioned himself nicely to win himself a trip to Vegas or Orlando. Third place went to another up-and-coming New England Speedster, Todd Chrusciel (76), who made a late moto charge and passed BBR’s Tom Parson (930).
