It’s been several weeks since we joined Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto at Glen Helen during his first day on the all new 2009 Kawasaki KX450F, so we decided to catch up with our guest editorial columnist to see how his Supercross training is going. RV is my favorite rider, and i could tell in the earlier 450 videos that he wasn’t the happiest with the bike, especially in the Racer X video at Glenn Helen. He looked great, but not as smooth as he usually is, but i am very impressed with his control on the tighter SX track. Hes moving better, and it looks like he finally accepted that you cant muscle a 450 around, and has had to adapt his riding style like all of us do when we move up, but he still looks like the same RV, so im anxious to watch him race on the big bike, should make for some great racing.
I agree, RV is used to holding the throttle pinned everywhere on the track whether it is necessary or not. He is probably realizing that he cannot ride the 450 the same way. I think Bubba had the same problem early on and learned to ride the bike in the middle of the power band. RV will be the second redhed giving Bubba a run for his money.

Finally we are going to see some racing again, and not just the race for second place.I think RV is a more seasoned and patient rider than Stewart was when he came into the motocross class.Hopefully he doesnt’ pull any bonehead type moves and takes it a just a little easy for the 1st couple of races to get his feet wet then as he gets in the groove he’ll really give Bubba something to worry about.

I became a fan of RV when he started winning. Being the fair-weathered fan that I am, I hope he wins this year or I am cheering for James, or whoever it is that does win.

Holy smokes, some people must be having a bad day or something! I think Villipoto’s gonna do great but after watching stewart at the Yamaha test track and his no fear-no holds barred attitude towards sx villipoto’s gonna have to charge a bit harder. Fortunately, he’s got some time to improve.
It looks like he’s just along for the ride until there’s a corner and then he has no idea what to do but turn the bike around and go for another ride down the next straight away. GET ON THE REAR BRAKE TO SLIDE THAT BEAST AROUND!!! I’d say forget about what Doug Dube says about being smooth with the throttle and lock up the rear brake going into the corner and literally get on the gas before releasing the brakes. Try skiing on ice out east and then you’ll appreciate sliding the rear end around and lean control.

Wow, he looks very smooth, fast on the 450. As much as I hate to say it, I’d rather see him at the top of the podium than James or Chad. He is a clean cut kid who works very hard. He deserves every bit of success that he has achieved so far.

He definitely looks smooth and precise on the 450. He has amazing throttle control considering his riding style on the 250 was WFO all the time! He has the flat track corners wired, but I think he will have to pick up his speed in the bowl turns if he is going to do better than 3rd. He is a smart/fast rider with Carmichael like determination. I am sure he knows whatever weakness (if any) he has and will work diligently on it until A1.

RV is looking good but the mighty James is faster than the mighty Goat was on a supercross track, so if RV is gonna beat James he’ll have to bring it like no other.Good luck RV I hope you do make watching supercross exciting again [ie Goat vs James and MC style]

I am tired of stewart winning, looks like RV2 will throw it down next year, I would like to see Reed beat JS7 soundly as well.
Guys RV is not as fast a supercross rider as he is motocross. James is gone and so is reed. He may be able to race windham or Millsaps but remember this guys have experience on 450. Josh Hill is another guy to watch.
RV might get a top 5 but im not betting on podium. May be motocross but not SX.
