Toronto Supercross: Stewart, Pourcel Victorious North of the Border
By Michael Antonivich

The AMA/FIM Monster Energy Supercross Series made its lone trek north of the border, and the Toronto fans were treated to great racing. The Jeff Stanton-designed track was tricky enough on its own, but the soft soil was another added element that kept everyone on their toes. A complete opposite from Travis Pastrana’s creation last week, the ex Michigan Mafia member threw in some rough mogul and whoop sections, the typical triples, and a huge start straightaway that had the pros on the binders to make the 90-degree left at its end. The smoke from the fireworks clea… actually, we can’t really say that. The smoke hung around all night, and the distances for some in the stands made it look like a fog had rolled in off the lake and into the Rogers Centre. But even still, the fans were treated to great racing as the tour battens down for the last few weeks.
Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel earned the win in Toronto, and along the way, wrapped up the Eastern Regional Supercross Lites Championship.
San Manuel/L&M/Yamaha rider James Stewart did what he had to and won Toronto in convincing fashion.

woooooooohoooooo!!!! that’s my boy!!!! James comes back with home work well done!!! Congrats to James Stewart And the San Manuel Yamaha Team.
I was hoping Austin(master rapper)Stroupe would get the win bummer , I like that kid.
March 28th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
Good riding by James. Let’s hope Reed wins next week!!!
March 28th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
booo, same ole story…
March 28th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
in my opinion, theres a 250 class with 20 riders, a 450 class with 19 riders, and a stewart class with 1 rider.
March 28th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
yo swap.. for being on your blackberry all night, you took some decent shots haha
March 29th, 2009 at 12:55 am
Congrats CP!! Nice to see Hill up there too!! First year I couldn’t make it to see the race in person.
March 29th, 2009 at 1:29 am
whats the points difference now??
March 29th, 2009 at 1:35 am
Tickle podiumed? rad.
March 29th, 2009 at 1:38 am
Swap-those blur shots in the SX main are pretty f-ing dope.
March 29th, 2009 at 1:41 am
haha, seriously. its so boring watching stewart just dominate the race 99% of the time, you have to hope he gets bad start or has a little fall for there to be some good racing. I want to see Reed finally beat stewart straight up. its nice seeing reed win, but it would alot better to see Reed win without stewart falling. hopefully he can pull one off and wrap up another championship. Go Reed!
March 29th, 2009 at 1:45 am
This is the next level!!just think if JS-7 wins the next 5 races and takes this to vegas and WINS VEGAS,would you belive then???Cause winnng 5 in row isn’t impossible, its been done B4 and and he batted 14 in row outdoor and what a pefect 7 or so this year!Oh boy its getting good and im sure Rc is lovin it..
March 29th, 2009 at 1:48 am
Damn there goes my lap top pepsi mishapDFn uyfv
March 29th, 2009 at 3:38 am
Reed Beat Stewart Straight up??? No such thing… Like the words of Ricky Bobby, if you ain’t first you’re last…Stewart has never lost a race straight up. If he lost it’s because he crashed.
March 29th, 2009 at 5:24 am
what happened to jlaw
is rv2 getting better?
March 29th, 2009 at 7:27 am
The whole race was pretty sick… it was funny cause swap was interviewing grant in the JGR rig and i was sitting, like, right there… it was cool to see everyone in the pits and stuff cause usually its too cold up here to do that.
March 29th, 2009 at 8:19 am
why can’t reed beat Stewart just 1 time thats it thats all I’m askingfor
March 29th, 2009 at 8:33 am
MAN I KNOW REED HAS THE SPEED BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY…THIS HAS TO PISS SPEEDY OFF…HE NEEDS TO HANG IT OUT THERE WITH A HOLESHOT AND JUST DEMORALIZE STEWART…GO CHAD!
March 29th, 2009 at 8:51 am
You must not remember that one guy by the name of ricky carmichael ? I watch quite a few races where he beat stewart straight up…ricky is still the greatest!! Go Reed!
March 29th, 2009 at 9:16 am
The only time you may see Reed hang it out is if this thing goes down to vegas, then Reed will have to hang it out and im not to sure he is comfortable on the edge like JS-7,but it would be nice to see! If it goes to vegas JS-7 will take this and Reed will once again be saying well if could get the start i need and jim holley can shut the F’ up!He looked sad when he and jason W.were talking about the race online!!
March 29th, 2009 at 10:10 am
reed has no heart, he is satisified with second place waiting for stewart to make his mistakes and hand reed the championship.
March 29th, 2009 at 10:28 am
I agree - watching Stewart is just BORING! The guy is CRAZY talented, but this is not helping or furthering the sport. Hopefully the outdoors this summer will be more entertaining!
March 29th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
no heart?……….. yeah ok he only rides and trains his butt of every day of the week i am sure he dont want to win.
March 29th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
well said motofan, well said
March 29th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
its actually a fact that stewarts never lost a race that he’s fallen in as well. that being said rc has never beaten stewart straight up.
March 29th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
wow dude your moron. obviously reeds strategy isn’t to bad if he’s still in the championship.
March 29th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
Wow. See, I’m not a fan of Stewart at all. But, I’ve gotta admit, that guy know what he’s doing. Personally, I couldn’t support a rider who is practically guaranteed to win. Seriously, a rider can just go ou a finish on top every time, does he REALLY need so much fan support? Honestly, I think being a Stewart fan is just taking the easy way out, because you’ll hardly have to hear crap about how he didn’t win & junk like that.
As for Pourcel taking the East Lites title, I’m happy for him. I’m actually a huge Stroups fan (a Kawasaki fan in general), but I give Christophe his props. After going through what he did and bouncing back like that, it takes a ton of dedication, courage, and skill. Congrats #377!
March 29th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
still in the championship? im pretty sure that he’s leading
March 29th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
i believe they said a rock hit j-law’s hand so he didnt ride and i think villopoto is still out with the viral infection
March 29th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
first reply.
for as crappy as the dirt was the race was pretty good.
March 29th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
How did some of you feel or did you forget…. when Jeremy McGrath Dominated And Carmicheal too No Difference here this time around with a New Dominater James Stewart.
Bottom line ……where you bored with Mcgrath too , He leads with the most supercross wins as of now.
March 29th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
way to go josh hill!
March 29th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
Exactly it’s called bandwagoneering, people don’t know anything bout the sport see it on tv and say I like James Stewart real fans like who they like for a reason not cause they’re 1st every week but but because they have a real interest in the best sport in the world. Basicallylearn about all the riders and form your own opinion that doesn’t involved winning every week
March 29th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
RC dominated Stewart all the way in the outdoor and always won over him in supercross. I am a racer myself, and you must know where is your limit. Stewart is fast, but he falls a lot. It’s part of racing. Reed is as good as him.
March 29th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
u must b out of your fuking mind 2 think reed has know heart.he is just a lot smarter then JS (just stupid) we will see who the real rider is very soon!!GO REED!!!!!!
March 29th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
I get sick of people harping on james for crashing alot. Is there anyone that can just go his speed period? I would like to see someone go that fast and see if they could keep it on two wheels all the time. It is easy to sit here and say things about someone when your not the one out there putting in the work and dealing with all the pressure. Why can’t we all just like our guys and give every other racer out there their respect because they are all worthy of it.
March 29th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
that fact is just from this season!!! Carmichael has beaten Stewart multiple tImes straight up!!! Carmichael is the GOAT!!! DON’T FORGET IT!!!!!
March 29th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
Reed has no heart? have you ever rode a bike that fast or that hard i think not because if you had we would all know who you are !!!
March 29th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
8
March 29th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
What if their opinion leads them to the one or ones that are winning? And are you saying anyone who likes Stewart doesn’t truly have a favorite rider?
March 29th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
You call yourself a racer???? You must be stupid to call James Stewart a (just stupid) stupid.
You know you would love to have his talent to evan beat Chad Reed! but since you don’t…….. this makes you not (just stupid) but Very Stupid…………and oh yes! both #1 and #7 do very much so have a lot of heart.
I wish them each lots of luck for the Championship!!
March 30th, 2009 at 12:00 am
you people ive been a james stewart fan since the kid was 12yrs old and their has never been someone as fast as james. as far as ricky carmicheal he did beat james in supercross but if you remember right he should have been penalized for fuel issues but because it was ricky they didnt penalize him, the prior 2yrs reed and stewart were both penalized points for the exact same reason, ricky would have lost the title to stewart that yr. also in 2006 stewart raced carmicheal outdoors on a 250 2stroke which now the ama is thinking about putting in the lites class and he actually bet ricky straight up at hangtown. ricky did beat james straight up in the outdoors the following yr but that was kawasakis first yr with a 4stroke and that years bike wasnt very good. as far as supercross if james doesnt crash he wins and that includes ricky carmichael
March 30th, 2009 at 12:04 am
You got that right and well said radarlovers
All 20 riders that make it to the main event are worthy anywhere in the motocross world and those who talk trash of any of them…..look in the mirror hard! and try to just make it in the main.
I know because i race.
March 30th, 2009 at 12:07 am
. also in 2006 stewart raced carmicheal outdoors on a 250 2stroke which now the ama is thinking about putting in the lites class and he actually bet ricky straight up at hangtown. ricky did beat james straight up in the outdoors the following yr but that was kawasakis first yr with a 4stroke and that years bike wasnt very good. as far as supercross if james doesnt crash he wins and that includes ricky carmichael
March 30th, 2009 at 1:53 am
simple as this the best rider will win the championship period maybe not the fastest or the most consistant but the best rider will come home with the goods
March 30th, 2009 at 1:58 am
Amen redrida402! Stewart is an amazing rider, I don’t understand how anybody could ever say he is a “boring” rider, Thats crazy! That being said, I am a Reedy Fan though and I would love to see him take the title again this year!
March 30th, 2009 at 7:55 am
If the truth be known….When Chad Reeds team gets together to plan their stragedy for the Main event….They are all on their knees praying ” Let James Fall” its the only way they ever win.
March 30th, 2009 at 8:21 am
I second that!
March 30th, 2009 at 8:33 am
RC
March 30th, 2009 at 9:07 am
All i gotta s is that stewart is beast outdoors, he holds on the gas and does remarkably well without the extra technicalities seen in supercross, hes faster than reed but reed has gotten in his head a little bit, when stewart fully matures its all over. Regardless of those two the field is stacked all of them are capable of becoming a threat its sweet.
March 30th, 2009 at 9:09 am
James Stewart {7} remember ‘ THE TOP SPOT IS THE ONLY SPOT ‘!!!!!
March 30th, 2009 at 9:19 am
Toronto sx was a true straight up race stewart vs. reed and of course Stewart proved he is the fastest in the world. Sorry Reed I dont wanna hear any complaints
March 30th, 2009 at 9:24 am
reeds still up by 8 still
March 30th, 2009 at 9:27 am
rc is the best ever, and will always be the best. end of story
March 30th, 2009 at 9:52 am
Stewart is too cocky and reed will win the championship and beat stewart without stewart falling. If you haven’t noticed he is always on stewarts ass when he has a good start, even with a bad start he works his way up to second.
March 30th, 2009 at 10:02 am
J-Law. What the?
Handguards buddy. Take some of that privateer money
and buy some you cheapskate. Some of us actually want
to see you race the main. See you in Jacksonville son.
We still got love for J-Law.
March 30th, 2009 at 10:10 am
Bad Habit’s got love fot J-Law
March 30th, 2009 at 10:29 am
furst comment!!!
hehehe
March 30th, 2009 at 11:04 am
yeah you’re right, he should try to punch, kick or take em’ out anyway he can right? because dirty riding is where its at. maybe next year the ama will make it more like medieval times.
March 30th, 2009 at 11:57 am
here is why JS is better than Reed. If JS starts in 5th and reed holeshots JS will be able to catch up and battle, if JS holeshots and Reed starts 5th, its over, he cant catch up.
March 30th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
Much of racing is the ability to stay on the bike. This is why so many of us are on the sidelines watching these races instead of being in them. Crashing is rider error, and James is not leading the championship because of that. If you crash your average lap times will generally be slower. Sure, James has more raw speed but often does not win championships because he doesn’t know how to shut it off. I am reminded of the time he landed on Ricky in the outdoors a few years ago. Good luck to both riders.
March 30th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
James Stewart is by far the fastest rider out there, even if Reed and Stewart get good starts, Reed can only hang with Stewart for a few laps before James starts to pull away. He always has a 7+ second lead by the end of the main if he doesn’t crash.
Without a doubt, James Stewart is the fastest rider around if he can stay on 2 wheels.
March 30th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
Its hard to ever say who is the best ever because when ricky was in his prime, bubba wasnt, and when bubbas in his prime ricky wont be. keep in mind james is still young and will get better.
March 30th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Why second , Why not 1st………………or do you think RC will do it next week anonymous.
March 30th, 2009 at 2:59 pm
They both crossed the same path in the air and James stewart was on a lesser bike called a 2 stroke , Kawasaki had frame problems that year with thier 4 strokes which forced Team Kawasaki to keep using 2 stroke engines.
Also what comes to mind when James was follwing RC at another race day and JS was in better shape , JS was on RC’s tail the whole time and RC took a soil sample late in the moto to lose the overall.
I gotta say….I do miss Ricky Carmichael racing with James Stewart , now that James has his RC’s fitness trainer who knows mybe the rolls would be in reverse and RC would befalling along with James.
March 30th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
You can’t say James’ 2 stroke was slow, how can you forget that massive holeshot he pulled that one race. He even came back and said that that bike scarred him. Plus his little bro was haulin the mail on that old 2 stroke at the amateur races last year in the big bike class.
March 30th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
As people have said RC has beaten Stewart time and time again straight up. Outdoors Ricky couldn’t be touched, so for all of you saying that James can’t be beat straight up do some research from a couple seasons ago. There will more then likely never be another rider like Ricky he’s the GOAT a name he earned and will never be dethroned of.
March 30th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
All I’m saying is be a fan of your guy because he’s your guy not just cause he wins every week.
March 30th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
You suckas better recognize, James is your worst nightmare on the supercross and motocross track. James is having fun and has big balls to make a tough technical track look easy. He is the obama of motocross!. Yes he can!!!.
March 30th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Stewart has never been beaten strait up in SUPERcross not MOTOcross. Ricky has beaten him straight up in moto, but he has never beaten him straight up in supercross. Stewart is 100% victorious we he doesn’t fall in supercross.
March 30th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
RC is the best and always will be you can make all the excuses you want for James such as the 2 stroke (which i’ll give you that, huge disadvantage) but as for the 1st year KX450F I don’t wanna hear it. They are all riding factory equipment and over 99% of the end result is the rider. Ricky and James are both amazing riders and are on another level than the rest of the riders. Reed has the talent, the fitness and the speed I think it could be the natural instinct that #7 & #4 have that seperate them not to mention their losing isn’t exceptable mentality. But to wrap it up the GOAT is the GOAT for a reason and more then likely always will be.
March 30th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Chad Reed got his ass handed to him in a sling!. For you reed nut holders, did you see the distance james put on the whole supercross class!. Yes he can!!!. reed suckas!.
March 31st, 2009 at 7:16 am
Lawrence is the sh*t, James is gonna win, Reed gets to make excuses while he stands on the second step, thats just how this cookie crumbles. Reeds had chances to bang bars with JS7 at some point in almost every race this year, and he never ends up in front under that scenario. The only way he beats James is when he has misfortune, just the way Reeds whole career has been, Second place, unless the fastest riders have bad luck. Good luck to both riders, obviously they are the 2 overall best, But we all know one of them is downright -alot- faster.
No mercy James, No mercy!!!
No excuses Reed!
what a great season (: lol
March 31st, 2009 at 4:11 pm
more horse power, less weight, less moving parts, cheaper rebuilds is the lesser bike? the only thing a 450 has going for it is the AMA rulebook. 4-strokes were created by the epa to faze out dirtbikes. 2-strokes get banned for the smoke then 4-strokes get sound restrictions what’s next…electric? MX is going in a lame direction.
March 31st, 2009 at 4:37 pm
So….anon your saying a 250 2-stroke has more power that a 450 4-stroke???
I know not.
Lorroco,s jump comes to mind you know what i mean…….
March 31st, 2009 at 4:51 pm
I’m a reed fan and at the same time I diffinately give huge props to James Stewart!! I,ve never seen talent like him ………EVER!! , RC was very close to him but JS needed Alan Baker to round him up to last two 30 min motos.
Good luck to James Stewart and Chad Reed for the Championship this year.
March 31st, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Stewart is the most talented man on a dirtbike racing right now and someone has to be second (reed). I used to like the race for third usually RV,Shorty or Kdub but now I just watch Ashley.
April 1st, 2009 at 8:31 am
RC is betta than James. Im a fan of both bt James isnt anywhere
close to RC
April 1st, 2009 at 11:53 am
im tired of all the james stewart haters lol but its so funny how he kills the pretty boi all the time the only time reed does win is if bubba falls how sad is that?
April 3rd, 2009 at 3:39 pm
i thought you rode a good race
April 3rd, 2009 at 7:42 pm
RV is will smoke everyone outdoors!! To bad James and Reed are sitting out.
April 4th, 2009 at 11:11 am
everyone in picture 50 has an energy drink haha
April 5th, 2009 at 11:00 am
ya if reed could get a start
like allisi than reed would
prob win so thats all i have
to say and james has the sieri
s
April 6th, 2009 at 8:14 pm
