DUNGEY AND STEWART TAKE CONTROL, VILLOPOTO EARNS FIRST 450 WIN

By Bayo Olukotun

Sunny skies greeted fans at this weekend’s Seattle Supercross, held at the beautiful Qwest Field in downtown Seattle. Entering the weekend, both the Western Region Supercross Lites and Supercross clases featured tremendous battles for the championship point leads. Fans on hand were treated to some of the best racing of the season, as Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey raced through the pack to earn the win in the SX Lites main and also stretch his series points lead over Jake Weimer. In the 450 class, meanwhile, hometown favorite Ryan Villopoto scored a very popular win over James Stewart, who raced back from a first-lap stall to nab second at the checkers and retake control of the championship series points lead. Defending Supercross Champion Chad Reed fell in the first turn and could only recover to seventh at the finish.

Lites Heat 1

Monster Energy/ Pro Circuit/ Kawasaki’s Ryan Morais pulled the holeshot on the sandy Seattle circuit followed by Division Seven/ Star Racing/ Yamaha’s Michael Hall and Ross Johnson.  Morais’s teammate, Jake Weimer didn’t have the best of starts and had some work to do to get up into the top five and did so by lap three.  Unfortunately for Johnson, a local rider who was having a great ride, a fall would drop him out of qualifying position.  By lap four, the top five running order was Morais, Hall, Geico Powersports/ Honda’s Daniel Reardon, Weimer, and Ryan Sipes aboard a Muscle Milk/ MDK/ KTM.  Out front Morais laid down some very fast laps to separate himself from the rest of the pack.  On the last lap, Hall fell in a corner but was able to keep the motor running and recovered to finish in fifth place.

Lites Heat 2

Off the start it was the Seaspan/ Troy Lee Designs/ Honda duo of Jake Moss and Jimmy Alberston.  Eric McCrummen also had an excellent start and was in the top four after the first lap.  Geico Powersports/ Honda’s Trey Canard looked to be on a mission as he worked his wasy from a top five start up to second before the end of the first lap.  Also on the move was Ryan Dungey on his Rockstar/ Makita/ Suzuki, who, after a poor start, had made his way up to fifth place by lap three.  Canard, riding very aggressively, pushed his way into the lead, and then shortly thereafter fell and stalled his bike.   While he managed to restart his machine, he had dropped back to fifth place but was still in qualifying position.  Ryan Dungey was a rider on the move as he made his way into second place, but Moss was not ready to give up his top position and held on for his first ever heat race win.

Lites LCQ

Seaspan/ Troy Lee Designs/ Honda teammates Chris Blose and Sean Borkenhagen, took the early lead and held onto it to the finish.  KTM rider Michael Sleeter unfortunately did not get the greatest of starts, but had worked his way up to third place by the finish although he was unable to qualify, taking home the Astersik Mobile Medic Card.  Worth noting was Justin Brayton, who was unable to qualify for the main event, ruining his mathematical championship hopes.

it’s about time reed had a miss hap. He is a moody baby. he can’t stay on a team for more than a few seasons without them haiting him. go back to aussi land.

Congrats to podium winner Ryan Villopoto , It,s gootta feel good bro!.

  • reedfan Says:

You know I was thinking two weeks ago that (Thor racing gear) should make special Villopoto designs that only he can wear and Reed can have his own designs. That will be sooooooo cool!!!

  • Jarrett Dean Says:

Way to go RV2 and Dungey! GREat promise for the future of the sport. Shame Reed had to choke his chicken and his title hopes away. I am no Stewie fan, but that dude is CRAZY fast! WOW! http://www.cafepress.com/otgracing

Ride it like you stole it!~

  • Slot001 Says:

Props to RV2, best comeback to racing ever! Looks like James learned how to ride slow and finish second from all the riding with Reed in FL lol great race on a sh*tty track, Milsaps bringing home the bacon too?! Awesome race! And as always, Transworld is the only stop for post race coverage

  • Anonymous Says:

So stoked to see RV back and winning at home. Way to go James for playing cool after taking second. I’m not a reed fan but man that sucks, he is my favorite second place guy. Props to Ashley too bad we only see her on the west coast races.

  • ranks75 Says:

Congratulations RV!! I’m sure you’ll get more in the future. Well done JS7!! You needed to get points when it mattered most and did. That Championship title has your name on it blood.

  • Anonymous Says:

I am assuming that he wore purple and gold for the UW Huskies…

  • Anonymous Says:

Wow, if only you would be that picky about James Stewart. You’d have quite a long reply if you were. And Reed is the best rider on his team, they don’t hate him, what are you talking about?

  • reedfan Says:

This proves that speed is better than consistancy anon Goooooo James!!!!

  • reedfan Says:

I’m happy to see Team Honda doing well this round …..Shouts outs to Millsaps and Tedesco for the main and heat race because I love my 2009 CRF450 it’s good to see the team do well .

Congrats to Ryan Villopoto and the home crowd!!!!

  • Stephen122193 Says:

    That was one crazy weekend.

  • Road dog Says:

Reed is just not fast enough to win the championship, he had all he needed with stewart not finishing at A1,and even that still that wasn’t enough. STEWART =’s CHAMP since he is that much better than Reed and everyone else.

  • belliott88 Says:

It’s amazing how the energy drinks have undertaken so many sponserships and how much they have put there logo on everything. Look at pic 50.

  • belliott88 Says:

Does anyone know what happened to Windham? I missed the race but it sounded like he was heading for better than tenth.

  • Anonymous Says:

i am way psyced to see rv win the race. i am however disappointed in reeds finish. and shame on millsaps and alessi to name a couple of riders that just move over for stewart. why are they so afraid of him? noone will stick a block pass on him wtf? he may be faster but that doesnt mean you just move over. i mean if i made that much money to race my dirtbike, i would race. not move over. pick it up fellas!

  • Anonymous Says:

reed will always be second best… people can call him consistent all they want but he couldnt do it while carmichael was around, and he cant handle it now.

  • KTMboy07 Says:

I agree with everything you said Road dog but you forgot the Mulligan handed to Reed by Stewart at Daytona. That should have been more than enough,CR needs to keep his mouth shut.

  • 4J2R0 Says:

    chad chad.. dont blow it

  • DKR Says:

Congrats RV2! Stay Healthy and win another one before the season ends! Your fast and will get even faster!

  • DKR Says:

2009 AMA Supercross champ…….James Stewart! Congrats in advance!

  • 573 Says:

Photo 47: Looks like RV2 is goon ridin’ it!!

  • Smoke Says:

unfortunate for chad reed, but statistiaclly his chances for a mess up were growing greater every race. too bad it had to happen now! Id be much happier to be in James shoes and mess up before it came down to the end like he did. This all being said from a statistics point of view.

  • reedfan Says:

Have that guy throw me some LOTTO numbers!!!!!!!

  • Allan Says:

chad doesn’t deserve this championship. getting second almost every race is pretty lame if he wins the championship. anyway i doubt that, stewart will win the championship. may the best win!

  • sweetness Says:

Technically, RC4 is the best on the team.

  • kdog Says:

wow, that was the first pro ama supercross race I’ve ever seen, and holy shit, it was pretty much the coolest thing ever!, it’s crazy how fast those guys are! watching them on tv is nothing like seeing it in real life!

  • J.L.C. from so. central Los Angeles Says:

James is the best in the world and all of you know that!. So suck it up and only dream of having balls as big as his with style an speed to boot!!.

  • Anonymous Says:

Its not over yet fellas, stewart can still go out and bite it within the next 2 races. you know with all that shit talkin , karmas gonna bite ya in the ass.

  • Smoke Says:

by the way did i mention CBS sucks, i had no clue what itme the race was on, it changed like everyday and this morning i couldnt even find it on the guide!

heres whats going down in SLC stewart for the win, and RV will battle chad for 2nd, chad will take 3rd. watch, you’ll see!

  • JR Says:

to me there is no doubt that stewart is faster but you also got to give credit to reed, he is normally a quarter of a second off but he is also faster than stewart sometimes, ( phoenix, anaheim 2, 3 and was running pretty solid at the opoener until someone else messed it up for him TOO) and he just didnt get the break to win when he has been faster. all in all, stewart deserves the title. but he really isnt that superior to reed.

  • mxracer851 Says:

Since I was exactly right about this race, here are some lotto numbers…….615982…………now buy me a 09 crf-450 thank ya

  • Anonymous Says:

You’re not the best if you cant stay up. Maybe the fastest, but not the best..

  • anonymous Says:

yeah chad doesnt deserve to win, he has won 3 races and stewart has won 10

  • anonymous Says:

yall know stewart is 100% undefeated if he doesnt wreck

  • Anonymous Says:

hey, tim ferry won the 97′ 125 supercross championship without winning a single race. he deserved the win because he was consistent, constant podiums. sure James Stewart is fast, but he is not consistently fast. speed is nothing if you cant use that speed and turn it into a championship.

props to RV on his first 450 win!

  • harvest Says:

They what you so call move over for reed also pie face.

  • Hoobastench Says:

    not anymore…

  • reedfan Says:

When I win , I’ll post it right here and we will buy TWO CRF450R’s 2010!! Thanks bub! and your welcome.

  • reedfan Says:

You must not really race anon , They move over because Stewart and Reed are sooooooo far in points!! that it does not matter to them , they will block pass other wise to beat the rest of the top 8.

Good luck to the rest of the top 8 for the runner up points!!!!

  • Anonymous Says:

Wow dude good comment about the nooses makes perfect sense you
must be one of those cool guys that cant stand the fact that
a black man is kicking the shit out of a white guy keep it up
and if you havent realized there is no white and black any more.
By the way who’s the president again you retard!!!!

  • Anonymous Says:

Ya you would really think Alessi, being CR’s teammate and all, would try and hold him up a little bit

  • bayodome Says:

This is going way back, but don’t forget about the 1992 Camel Supercross battle between Damon Bradshaw and Jeff Stanton. Damon had nine wins (a record at the time) going into the final round in LA, while Stanton only had two wins. All the “Beast from the East” had to do was score a fourth place a better in the main to take the championship. But alas, Stanton kept his head in the game to take the main event win and the championship, while Bradshaw rode like a rookie to finish fifth and lose the title that was his for the taking.

What does this mean? It ain’t over ’til its over!

  • bayodome Says:

Still stands. He didn’t fall but he did stall.

  • Anonymous Says:

everyone on here has something to say about either stewart or reed, yet none of us has a place to talk, we will never be as fast as they are on a bike. each rider has their ups and downs and no matter what or who it is someones always going to have their likes and dislikes. good ride to everyone who raced

  • Amigosaki3 Says:

Congrats to Rad Ryan. Win more. GO GO Villopoto ! And stay healthy.

  • George Says:

RV good ride. I look for RV, MA, and AS to race for outdoor title. Part timers are not racers.

  • G-Snatch Says:

Ya, I wonder if any of there sponsored riders even drink that stuff. With the top racers being in such good shape, i dont know why they would.

  • Anonymous Says:

true ur not the fastest if ur on the ground

  • 03kx250 Says:

Reed all the way.stewart is fast and obivously rides better then reed but theres absolutly NO compition between the two unless steward falls or make a huge mistake(changes of that are high).and someone who just goes other there every weekend and rides with no compition means nothing to me.at least reed trys his ass off every weekend and puts alot of heart and makes no mistakes

  • 03kx250 Says:

and i just cant stand stewart.id hate to say it but idk if its because hes black or wat but theres something about thats lame

  • Tc Says:

I think Reed is a 2nd place guy..Ya he hauls ass but he just is not a real winner? He has never just won a championship in the 450 class hands down always by default. He also is a stuck up cry baby …I think he hates the ugly Americans…He is flat out a little spoiled rich brat! He never shows any love for the USA or respect! HE is just a (blow it) thank god he was not on our team @ the Motocross De Nations! As far as Stewie he hauls ass but he is a flake also always some kind of a problem WTF dude if you worked at a typical job you would be fired …Maybe he is a nice guy? Maybe he will grow up and get his shit togeather? He is just a kid but it’s time to clean your program up for a complete racing year/season. And what is the deal with the Supercross only contracts screw that shit!! Is it because the top guys are to expensive for the factory to afford for a full year of racing or is it because they (the top guys) took a major pay cu and dont want to race for less money? Or is it because the top guys are just premadonas and dont want to ride dirty bikes and race the real racing OUTDOORS!! Thats the real shit Supercross sucks compared to out doors..I love the sport of Motocross but man the top guys are becoming top girly men!!

  • Anonymous Says:

That is ridiculous, A riders speed includes mistakes which include stalling and wrecking.

  • Anonymous Says:

Unless you get there before everyone else!

  • reedfan Says:

    Very true

  • reedfan Says:

How poetic , I think I’ll have some tea

  • reedfan Says:

He’s not wearing FOX gear no more , you should like him now! =-)

  • reed22 Says:

im so sick of hearing stuart should be the champion because he is fast. yeah is is fast but hes not the best. reed is way more consistant than stuart and thats why reed is in the runin for the championship. stuart cant control himself under pressure and all reed has to do is figh with stuart and stuart will make mistakes and reed will take the win. unlike reed he can controll himself.
    so stfu bout stuart

  • reed22 Says:

excuse unlike stuart, reed can controll himself

  • Valverde626 Says:

Chad is a second place rider and always will be

  • Anonymous Says:

Reedy is just hangin on by a thread at this point but hey its supercross anything s posible “Bubba” could just fall and wind up in seventh just like chad next race… you never know!! and im torn this season… im a die hard yamaha fan but im also a huge reed fan. haha o well i guess i cant go wrong this season haha. GO REED!!! GO BLUE!!!

  • Anonymous Says:

i dont want either 2 win!

  • reedfan Says:

Who would you like to see for the win??? RC?

  • Anonymous Says:

one of u guys said that reed rides blue, dude your such an idiot he rides a damn suzuki

  • Austrailian Dude Says:

chad is awesome cause he rides motorbike fast. jamie stewarts is fast on motorbike but not consistent. chad is sweet cause ride kawi.

  • Francisco Bulto Says:

Josh Grant of Joe Gibbs Racing to me is the surprise of the year…his consistent top ten finishes prove that he has the right stuff. Go#33!
