Race Report - Freestone

The third running of the Texas round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Nationals at Freestone County Raceway went off without a hitch. Fans were treated to some great racing and sunny weather, and the racers were forced to deal with a fairly rough circuit. In the end, the points leaders remained the same, but that does not mean they were unchallenged. 450 Class: First Moto
Mike Alessi grabbed the opening holeshot on his Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki with Red Bull Honda’s Ivan Tedesco not far behind. By the third Red Bull Honda rider, Andrew Short, had worked his way into second as Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki’s Chad Reed went to work on Tedesco, but had his work cut out for him. Following not far behind were Toyota/JGR/Yamaha teammates Cody Cooper and Josh Grant.
Reed went down on lap five, dropping a few positions, but remounted quickly, losing only a few positions. Grant was a man on the move though, as he quickly worked his way into the number three position and was laying down some very fast laps.
As the race hit the half way mark, Grant had worked his way into third behind Short, as Reed put on a recovery charge, passing Cooper for fifth. Tedesco was not about to give up though, as he regained his composure and began to pressure Grant once again and the two riders put on an excellent show as the laps wound down.
In the closing laps, riders began to settle into their positions, but one of the only racers on the move was Monster Kawasaki’s temporary riders, Ricky Dietrich, who continued moving forward throughout the entire race, and was all the way up to seventh by races end. At the finish, Alessi took a convincing moto win followed by Short with his strongest ride of the season.

450 Class: Second Moto
As per usual Alessi grabbed his usual holeshot, but not far behind was 450 class rookie Dan Reardon on the Geico Powersports/Honda followed by Short, Dietrich, and Reed. Weston Peick was also having an excellent ride (although he eventually faded a bit, he looked very strong in the first half of the race.
Two riders on the move were Tedesco and Yamaha’s Josh Hill who both had terrible starts but had worked their way into the top 15 in short order.
Alessi was definitely on a mission as the race hit the halfway mark with an 18 second lead over second place. Another rider on the move was Tommy Hahn who displaced Dietrich for fifth place as the laps wound down and was recovering from a terrible first moto where he fell in a loamy turn while in 15th and had to wait for nearly the entire field to g by before picking up his bike.
In the end, Alessi took the overall win in nothing less than dominating fashion, with two holeshots and two moto wins, taking the second moto by nearly thirty seconds.

Really, Chad isnt worth backing? If i remeber correctly Chad has beat Dan every moto this year. Seems like to me that Chad is the better rider, and has better results.
Also, i dont remember hearing any sob stories from J-Law, More of I don't give a Fu**, we'll get'em next time stories.

i was at the race and he had a pretty nasty spill he rode the second moto but he looked pretty hurt and very tentative

Alessi didn't get the holeshot in the first moto. He was 3rd coming around the first turn but passed both Short and Tedesco for the lead in about 3 corners.

Dude did you even watch the race. When Chad passed Reardon it made Reardon look like he was just in the way. Chad took the corner wide and still beat him out of the turn. Give up Haters Chad is one hell of a rider.

Congrats to Mike Alessi for getting his first 1-1 overall in the 450 class. Especially last year coming in second all year to James Stewart and then crashing hard nearly getting ran over by the whole field! My hat off to Mike for getting a 1-1 agian.

We would if we could. MX Sports limits video permission since Speed has TV rights to the Nats. Expect Mt. Morris pit vids from us next week though.

I love a good bump and run race. Anytime they get close, that is racing people. Who cares if its a little dirty. That keeps the magazine and newspaper and TV guys in business. Rivalry is good for business.

I like chad. He is a good rider. I wish I had half the skills. But I wish I had half the skills of any of the pro riders. Let em race. I think there are too many rules as is.

if only stewart raced outdoor this year he would show them all how it done out there congrats to alessi though keep chad off the #1 spot he doesnt deserve it

If, If, If, If! If if's and but's were candy and nuts, everyday would be christmas. What about this if. If Carmichael were here or if Hannah were here, or if Mike Alessi hadn't hurt his knee….. Just deal with the facts. Reed is in the driver seat. He earned it. He is in it, he's not hurt, and is fast. It is a bummer that everyone isn't in it but that's the way it goes. That's also why the championship is more than one race. Over the course of the season the best overall rider will win.
