The womens motocross class enjoyed, or rather endured, the first and last motos of the day in Lakewood, CO for the Thunder Valley National. Fiolek took another win, while Mariana Balbi put on the performance fo her career.
WMX MOTO ONE
When the gates dropped for the first moto of the early evening at Thunder Valley, Honda Red Bull Racing’s Ashley Fiolek boosted off the line first with one of her now signature holeshots, with new Geico Powersports Honda recruit Vicki Golden and Sherri Cruse aboard her Cernics Suzuki in tow. Cruse quickly claimed the second place spot, while Fiolek completely checked out to run her own race. Golden, meanwhile, was left to fend off the attacks of Honda of Houston’s Jessica Patterson. And, Patterson finally got the best of Golden and her Geico Powersports Honda. When all was said and done, Fiolek took the convincing win with Cruse and Patterson round out the top three.

As time clicked down, Balbi stalked fiolek and closed in. Lap after lap, she inched closer, and on the last lap it seemed she may catch her. Fiolek, though, held on for the win, and Balbi took the satisfying second.

Ashley Fiolek won the holeshot yet again in the second moto but was quickly overtaken by Vicki Golden, who seemed more comfortable aboard her new Geico Powersports Honda. Jessica “JP$” Patterson followed suit and also made her way around the young prodigy. Then Patterson quickly made her move on Golden to take over the lead on the second lap. Menawhile, Mariana Babli was ramping up to have the race of her life. She found herself up in the mix with Golden, Fiolek, and Cruse, and decided she liked where she was. Patterson looked to be settling into the lead but she went down in the whoops allowing Fiolek, who had taken over second, to regain the lead she lost on the first lap.

I agree DG22…these hillbillies posting are what give this sport the struggle for land usage, tv coverage and other basic issues…

Thanks BWC Design - I know. 8-/ 8-}
I think it rocks to have girls that ride and race and get coverage. They are so cute and marketable! They def need more coverage (like how girls surfing gets so much coverage). The world needs more MX girls like them!

Mariana está dedicando muito. O resultado desta segunda bateria foi o reflexo do bom trabalho que tem feito aqui no Brasil onde já venceu inclusive uma etapa do Brasileiro de Motocross. Ela contra 38 homens !!!
Go Mariana Go !!!!!

I am glad to see MX celebrity Ashley doing great, as expected. However, Marianna's form in photo #8 looks very nice.
