For the second year in a row, the Monster Energy Cup shifted its focus from racing to the FMX elite halfway through the event, as the sport’s nastiest whippers took center stage to battle for Dirt Shark Biggest Whip bragging rights. The difference this year? Instead of the usual ramp-to-dirt hit like at last year’s contest, this year riders threw down on the MEC track’s 100-foot dirt-to-dirt triple.
After qualifying took place outside near the pit area, eight riders including Todd Potter, Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg, Jarryd McNeil, Edgar Torronteras, Brett Cue, Beau Bamberg, Destin Cantrell, and last year’s winner, Tom Parsons, entered Sam Boyd Stadium to compete under the lights, but when the dust settled, Australian Jarryd McNeil took home the top prize with a score of 91.7. Beau Bamberg notched an 89.3 for second place, and Edgar Torronteras finished in third with an 84.7.
