New for 2002, the all-new Forma Pro boot has been under development for over a year. With the input of James Stewart, the boys at Fox have come up with what is undoubtedly the best Fox Racing boot ever. Period. The project leader of the Forma Pro came straight to Fox from the fitness footwear giant Adidas, and rather than trying to upgrade and improve upon the existing Forma Comp, he started over from scratch.
The new boot is one of the most comfortable we’ve ever slipped our feet into, thanks to the internal construction that minimizes the number of seams that come into contact with your foot. Aside from the gaudy pink and white polka dot liner of the Stewart replica version, the inside of the boot is a work of art. Plenty of foam padding and a Drilex liner on the inside keep you feeling comfy, cool and protected. Actually getting your foot into the boot is a breeze, thanks to the way the boot opens up extra-wide. This is one of the easiest boots to slip into—it requires no special care or adjustments.
The Forma Pro utilizes trick aluminum buckles that are about 10,000 times easier to operate than those on previous Fox boots, and they offer a wide range of adjustability—even for those riders like Big E who have elephant calves. The shin plate has a pronounced curve in it that is designed to accommodate the combination of big calves and bulky knee braces, and both it and the calve plate boast plenty of impact protection.
[IMAGE 3]The boots themselves are comfortable right from the get go, and require very minimal break-in time. Ankle support is above average and remains consistent through the wear and tear of week in and week out riding.
[IMAGE 4]One of our favorite features about the new boot is the sole, which is stiff, yet compliant enough to feel the foot controls through. The herringbone design of the dual-compound sole offers plenty of traction and grip on your footpegs, while still allowing you to move around on the pegs. The sole presented our only concern, as the outer edges of the sole seemed to wear a little prematurely. Our test boots, however, were pre-production and versions that will hit dealership shelves in time for Christmas should have firmer compounds on the sole.
Dollar for dollar, the new Fox Racing Forma Pro boot is an awesome value. Priced in the same range as the mid-level Alpinestars Tech 6, Gaerne SG-1 and Sidi Vortex, the Forma Pro delivers the style, protection and performance of a premium boot.Call 888/FOX-RACE or visit www.foxracing.com
