Altex Computers and Series’ Sponsors Made the WML Motocross Championship Biggest Success to Date

New Top 3 Bonus Award Programs Presented WML Pros with Extra Cash

Bend, OR—The Women’s Motocross League (WML) announces the most successful women’s motocross championship in history. WML tributes this unparalleled success to its 2003 series’ sponsors including Altex Computers, Honda Rider Club, Scott USA, Dunlop Tires, Alpinestars, Thor Racing, Racer X Illustrated, Sick Racing, and I Precision along with the assistance of the National Promoters Group (NPG) and AMA Pro Racing.

The WML had an increase in participants, a more visible and professional presence at the Nationals and larger-than-ever purse payout in this year’s series. In addition, Scott USA, Sunstar, Pro Clean, Universal, Race Tech, and Rite Tie, helped launch the new Top Three Bonus Award Program granting additional funds directly to the WML Pro Racers.

The AMA/WML Altex Computers Motocross Championship Series ran in conjunction with half of the AMA/Chevy Trucks Nationals. Four tracks (Hangtown MX, Washougal MX, Spring Creek MX, and Steel City Raceway) provided WML pro racers the opportunity to race on Sunday and to be seen by the record-breaking numbers of fans (over 80,000 for all four events). The series drew more professional women racers than ever before including several from outside of the US.

Five different countries are represented in the top 15 final points standings for the WML Pro series. Turnout at each race location was also solid with more than 80 women combined raced at Glen Helen Raceway; close to 70 at Hangtown MX; and more than 90 at Washougal MX. At Spring Creek the number of women doubled in the Amateur division from the previous year.

Among other highlights for the season was the inclusion of the WML in the National Program for the first time, an autograph signing at the new WML booth at which more than 5000 posters were distributed to fans, and the debut of the new WML staff RV with custom graphics. Ongoing highlights of WML pro racing were featured in the 125cc AMA Motocross telecast on espn (six shows with one re-broadcast each) and there was an “Outside the Lines segment on WML in the Washougal 250cc AMA Motocross broadcast.

The WML was able to pay out more prize money from the purse, Sick Racing holeshot money and Top Three Bonus Award money, than ever before. In addition, the WML will be holding a new race called the Altex Computers Women’s Motocross League Cup over Thanksgiving weekend at Cycle Ranch MX, San Antonio, Texas. This new race will pay out $20,000 for the women’s pro purse!

The WML is looking forward to working with the Series’ sponsors again in 2004 as well as creating new partnerships.
