Amateur Supercross Announced in Anaheim and Atlanta for 2002

Clear Channel’s sports division announced today the addition of Clear Channel Amateur supercross at select venues during the 2002 season of EA SPORTS Supercross Presented by Speed Stick, those include Anaheim’s Edison International Field(January 20) and Atlanta’s Georgia Dome (February 24).

A new addition to this season and a continuation of Clear Channel Entertainment’s on-going effort to help develop a solid amateur motocross platform that compliments its amateur arenacross program, riders will be able to compete inside the same stadium as Jeremy McGrath, Travis Pastrana and Ricky Carmichael. The quintessential to professional supercross, amateur supercross will give riders a foundation to hone their skills on an official Dirt Wurx-built supercross track.

“In addition to our amateur arenacross program, we wanted to present amateurs another opportunity to sharpen their skills on the tight, precise tracks that indoor facilities offer,” said Todd Jendro, director of supercross, Clear Channel Entertainment – Motor Sports. “As the competition level of the professional ranks of supercross continue to grow, we strive to make the transition for aspiring amateurs as smooth as possible.

Jendro went on to say: “Having the opportunity to put on Clear Channel Amateur Supercross eventsthis season is due in part to the availability of each stadium. Typically, when the event ends, we are on deadline to quickly return the stadium to its original condition, but our solid relationships with our venues and their flexibility allows us the opportunity to give amateurs the chance to race inlegendary stadiums.”

The Anaheim and Atlanta rounds of Amateur supercross will join the existing round of Pontiac Amateur Supercross, rounding out the series to three races.
