Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series Stats for Atlanta

AURORA, Ill. (February 23, 2006) ¿ Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series returns to Atlanta’s Georgia Dome this Saturday, Feb. 25.

  • Since ’74, when supercross started, this is the 430th round of supercross.
  • First race in Atlanta, March 5, 1977, Bob Hannah won.
  • First time winners in Atlanta: Bob Hannah, Chuck Sun, Jeff Stanton, Damon Huffman.
  • Wins by brand in Atlanta: Yam-10, Hon-9, Kaw-5, Suz-3.
  • Since ’77, the supercross has raced in Atlanta every year except ’87 and ’88.
  • Yamaha won the 1st ever race in Atlanta. It was held at the old Fulton County stadium. In ’92, Yamaha’s, Damon Bradshaw, won the last supercross race at Fulton County stadium. In ’93, it moved into the Georgia Dome where Bradshaw won again on a Yamaha.
  • Carmichael became the 1st rider to win in Atlanta on three brands last year.
  • In ’89, Mike LaRocco was making his 2nd ever 250 supercross start where he finished 6th. This year he starts his 228th race in Atlanta.
  • This is the 28th time the gate will drop in Atlanta.
  • Riders to win Atlanta on a 125 and 250: Bradshaw, RC, Reed. Can Stewart join them?
  • Carmichael’s 35th consecutive podium streak was stopped in St. Louis. For his fourth consecutive season, Chad Reed gets a win. It was his 24th supercross win. He is now fifth on the all-time supercross win list. Last weekend was his first supercross win on a four stroke.
  • McGrath has 27 wins on a Yamaha. Reed now has 24 wins on a Yamaha.
  • This is the ninth consecutive season that Yamaha has won a supercross race. It is the longest active streak.
  • Reed gets hot at mid-season. In ’03, he won 6 of the last 8, ’04, he won 5 of the last 8, and in ’05, he won 4 of the last 8.
  • For the fourth time in supercross history, there have been three different winners.
  • Reed becomes the third different points leader this season.
  • Carmichael is going for his 100th supercross start this weekend.
  • Suzuki has never won back-to-back in Atlanta. Can Carmichael make it happen?
  • Yamaha has won a supercross event 26 seasons out of 32 seasons.

AMA Supercross Lites

  • This is the 325th round of AMA Supercross Lites.
  • In 1986 Georgia native Keith Turpin became the first Georgia rider to win the 125 supercross race in Atlanta. He would also go on to win the 125 Eastern Regional championship for Honda. In ’94,  Ezra Lusk, also from Georgia, joined him him. No other Georgia native has won the 125 class in Atlanta.
  • Honda hasn’t won a AMA Supercross Lites race in Atlanta since ’93, when Doug Henry picked up the win. Honda only has two wins in Atlanta, Doug Henry and Keith Turpin. Can Millsaps make it three?
