We just got off the phone with Jason Thomas, the Race Team Coordinator for Williams Brothers Racing, who confirmed that Andrew McFarlane broke his arm yesterday during a practice session on the supercross track at Lake Elsinore MX Park.
“I got a call from Buddy Antunez [BRACKET “Buddy is the Suzuki liaison and rider coach for the Rockstar/WBR/Suzuki team”], he said that they were at the hospital and Andrew had broken his arm,” said Thomas. Jason went on to say the injury occurred when Andrew went down coming out of a short set of whoops into a triple.
Andrew is scheduled to undergo surgery tomorrow (Thursday) to repair the break. Doctors won’t know the expected recovery time for certain until after the surgery, but they are hopeful that Andrew will be able to ride the Supercross Lites Eastern Region, which starts on February 24th in Atlanta.
Jason told us Andrew has taken to the RM-Z250 very well, and the team was making plans for him to ride the Western region, but they are still confident in the team with Troy Adams running Lites West, Kelly Smith (and now likely Andrew McFarlane) running Lites East, and Michael Byrne competing in the Supercross class.
