Announcing the Women¿s Motocross and Supercross Foundation (WMXF)

Formerly known as the Women¿s Auxiliary of Motocross and Supercross, the organization has a new name but is still dedicated to serving the motocross and supercross community

Corona, Calif., (April 13, 2004) ¿ The Women¿s Auxiliary of Motocross and Supercross has a new name: Women¿s Motocross and Supercross Foundation (WMXF).

¿After a lot of deliberation, we decided that the name Women¿s Motocross and Supercross Foundation best captured our mission.  A large part of what we do is providing support to the racing community, and the word ¿foundation¿ really describes what we¿re all about,¿ explained Co-President Shirley Short.

True to its mission, the WMXF continues to raise money for worthy causes in motocross/supercross.  On Friday, April 16th, the WMXF will partner with Team Samsung/Radio Shack at Central Yamaha¿s Open House to raise money for Lynn Nickerson, the famed motocross announcer from Fort Worth who was recently diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus.

WMXF will hold a raffle auction featuring jerseys, number plates and other current racer memorabilia.  A portion of the proceeds from the WMXF raffle auction will benefit Mr. Nickerson.

The Central Yamaha Open House is on Friday, April 16th from 6:30 PM.  Those interested in bidding on racer memorabilia should arrive early to peruse raffle memorabilia items.  Central Yamaha is located at 7000 Avenue K, Plano, Texas.

The Women’s Motocross and Supercross Foundation (WMXF) is a non-profit organization (501 c3) founded in 2003 to enhance the motocross/supercross racing community.  WMXF¿s mission is four-fold.  First, to support to any racer or crew member who suffers injury as a result of participation in or preparation for a professional motocross/supercross event.  Second, the foundation provides support to those in the motocross/supercross community who suffer serious misfortune not directly related to competition.  Third, WMXF provides financial support to benevolent organizations that support the sport of motocross/supercross.  Finally, the foundation serves as a group of women who contribute to the well-being of families in the professional motocross/supercross community.  WMXF will promote fellowship among the teams and represent supercross, the outdoor nationals and the entire sport in a beneficial way.
