BlueStarrMX hit Hangtown for Round 2 of the WMA National Series

Sarah Whitmore and Tarah Gieger, riding for, hit Hangtown Raceway this weekend for Round 2 of the WMA National Series.  Pitting in the pro pits out of the Freedom Ramp and Camp style RV by Coachman provided by of Sun City, Temecula, and Riverside fans were able to tour the RV and hang out with the riders.

The first moto kicked off at 3:30 on Saturday.  Surprised by a really quick gate drop the almost full gate of pro women riders were caught a bit off guard.  Both Whitmore and Gieger took off though and worked their way to the front of the pack.  Whitmore found herself passing everyone all the way to third and engaged in battle Livia Lancelot and Jessica Patterson.  Whitmore made the pass in an uphill turn splitting Lancelot and Patterson, almost loosing control of her bike, super-manning for a few seconds, but ultimately maintaining control and taking the lead.  Then coming off a downhill jump Whitmore crashed giving first and second to Patterson and Lancelot.  Meanwhile teammate Gieger recovered from a tangled crash with Tania Satchwell and Jessica Gephardt and flew past the other riders and found herself fighting for position in a pack of girls battling for fifth, sixth, and seventh.  The tight track made it difficult to pass in several sections and Gieger finished sixth.

In the second moto the girls were again surprised by the gate drop, this time because it took a full 10 seconds.  Whitmore and Gieger took off again with Patterson taking the lead.  Hot on Patterson’s tail Whitmore was fast and fierce and finished second without anyone challenging her position.  Gieger was stuck in that same pack though.  On the uphill jump Gieger jumped over Elizabeth Bash and crashed giving up the fourth place position.  She wasted no time getting back on her bike and was back in the race to finish fifth.

Overall it was another successful weekend for BlueStarrMX with Whitmore finishing second overall followed in fourth Gieger. Whitmore said, “My Yamaha YZ125 was awesome once again because it’s so light and easy to ride.  I had a great day and was able to find and get my position looking through my Scott goggles.  Teammate Gieger wasn’t thrilled with her results this weekend and said, “I ran into some bad luck but I was able to get my Yamaha YZ250F started each time I crashed.  I’m looking forward to the next race and bringing home another win for BlueStarrMX.  After the race this weekend Whitmore trails 6 points behind leader Patterson while Gieger is just 1 point behind Whitmore for third.  Team manager Tateum Bowers said, “Sarah and Tarah rode great this weekend.  It was great to be at Hangtown and with support from Dunlop at the track it made it easy for the riders to deal with the rough track.

Round 3 will be held at Thunder Valley in Colorado in July.  Before then though Whitmore and Gieger will be riding together at Mammoth and qualifying for Loretta Lynn’s.
