Murrieta, Calif., (February 4, 2004) ¿ 2003 125 East Supercross Champion, Branden Jesseman, sustained a wrist injury while practicing last Friday. Jesseman underwent surgery yesterday at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) to repair ligaments in his left wrist.
“I¿m disappointed that I won¿t get to defend my supercross title, but I¿m thankful that I have access to the best specialists in the country at UPMC,” said Jesseman. “Initially, the emergency room in California misdiagnosed my injury, so it was nice to come back to Pittsburgh and see my hand specialist, Dr. Goitz. He¿s someone I know I can trust.”
As for when he will return to competition, Jesseman is taking his cue from another great champion: Ricky Carmichael. “At the press conference before the first Anaheim race, Carmichael said he was going to take his time recovering from his ACL injury and not turn a three month injury into a season long injury. I feel the same way. I will race again when I¿m 100%.”
“In the meantime, I will be at plenty of supercross races signing autographs and cheering for my 125 teammates, Broc Hepler and Davi Millsaps,” said Jesseman.
Jesseman¿s prognosis is very good and he is expected to make a complete recovery.
Branden Jesseman is sponsored by Suzuki, Fly Racing, Alpinestars, Scott, UPMC Sports Medicine, Liquid Ice, Kicker and EVS.
