Popular Midwest racer signs with Thor/Honda/Tuf Racing program
AURORA, Ill., (October 4 , 2005) ¿ Ohio¿s Brock Sellards made it official today, signing with the long-running Thor/American Honda/Tuf Racing team to compete in the AMA Arenacross class (250ccc) of the 2005-2006 AMA National Arenacross Series.
¿We were on the phone right away when we heard that Brock was interested in racing the AMA National Arenacross Series,¿ said Thor/American Honda/Tuf Racing¿s Dave Antolak. ¿I¿ve known Brock for some time, but when we got to talking, I had no idea he used to run a Tuf Racing seat cover back when he was racing 80s! We shared a few laughs about that and now we¿re definitely looking forward to having Brock aboard for the AMA National Arenacross Series and having him in contention to win the 2005-¿06 AMA National Arenacross Series title.¿
Sellards, 27, began his pro career in 1996 and is about to enter his 10th year of professional racing. Known for his `podium-at-any-cost¿ racing prowess, he¿s enjoyed his greatest success in supercross-style racing ¿ finishing as high as second place in the 125cc class in `00.
¿We are excited to have Brock (Sellards) racing in our AMA National Arenacross Series,¿ said Todd Jendro, senior director of operations, Clear Channel Entertainment ¿ Motor Sports. ¿I¿ve watched Brock throughout his career and know that he is capable of winning the AMA National Arenacross Series championship.¿
¿I¿m looking forward to mixing it up in the AMA Arenacross class (250cc),¿ said Sellards. ¿I had a rough summer of racing at the AMA Motocross championships and, since I¿ve got healthy, have been getting after it in preparation for the AMA National Arenacross Series. It¿s definitely a tough style of racing, but that¿s what I¿m used to. That¿s the style of racing I grew up with and look forward to challenging for the AMA National Arenacross Series title this year.¿
Over the last few years Sellards has rarely been out of the top ten in the overall 125cc class standings. Be it on the east or west coast, Sellards was always tough ¿ scoring numerous wins, the last of which came in 2003 (Atlanta & Houston).
¿We feel that Brock enters the AMA National Arenacross Series season as one of the two favorites to win the overall,¿ said Antolak. ¿So combined with the No. 1 manufacturer, American Honda, and the No. 1 sponsor in racing, Parts Unlimited, we feel this deal worked out pretty well. And not to let the cat out of the bag just yet, but we¿re about to sign the other favorite.¿
