Budds Creek MX 2012: Practice

Budds Creek in Mechanicsville, Maryland, has welcomed the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championship with sunny skies and relatively mild temperatures. The home of the 2007 Motocross of Nations is well-known for its many elevation changes, deep ruts, loamy soil, and die-hard fans. And although the track layout is basically the same as always, BC did still managed to throw some curveballs at the racers. The big triple step-down into a single claimed a few riders due to the square-edged breaking bumps (mountains) at the bottom and a jump lip that sent many riders to the outside edge of the track.
Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey claimed the fastest lap in the 450 class, followed by MotoConcepts Mike Alessi, while Geico Honda teammates Justin Barcia and Eli Tomac claimed the top two spots respectively in the 250 class. The Honda riders, along with Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen all dipped below the two-minute mark. As you will see below, the top four 250 riders all posted faster laps than the second fastest 450 rider, Alessi. Those young guys are rippin’. Check out some shots from practice, while we grab a quick bit before the first gate drop.
