In 2007 Josh Hill struggled throughout the year to find his groove on the Lites bike. In 2008, however, Hill made the switch to the 45o. The lone ranger of the factory Yamaha rig produced an impressive Supercross season where he compiled four podium finishes, including his victory at Minneapolis. Now, as the season opener at Glen Helen Raceway is only a few days away, we sat down with the California transplant to talk about his goals for Glen Helen and beyond.
How is outdoor testing going?
It’s all right. I’ve been riding and training; just the normal stuff. The bike is killer, so it makes things pretty easy. I just ride now.
Your Supercross goals were to get a win and finish on the podium. You were able to accomplish that. What are your motocross goals?
Same thing. Hopefully I’ll have more wins, though. That’s the plan. I want to be consistent and grab a couple of wins. If things go like last year then that puts me in a good position for the championship, but I can’t count on that. I can’t count on everybody having bad races, so I need to do my best.
Do you consider yourself more of an outdoor rider or a Supercross rider?
I don’t know what I am. Some days I feel like riding outdoors and some days I can’t stand riding outdoors. It just depends on the day.
Are you excited about the season coming up?
Yeah, I am I am just excited to get the first round out of the way so I know what I need to do.
Do you train differently for outdoors than you would Supercross?
Right now I am kind of on my own program. I am doing a ton of running and a lot more cardio.
How different is your bike this year compared to the bike you rode last year?
Uh… I don’t know. I haven’t ridden them back-to-back. My bike this year is killer, though! My bike last year was pretty close to stock! Other than suspension and motor work, there was no difference in the chassis, or anything. It was almost a stock bike. We have fine-tuned this year’s bike a lot!
Where do you expect to see yourself at Glen Helen?
Podium.
