Countdown To Glen Helen: 15 Days

With the flash and flair of Supercross fading into distant memory, the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championships are right around the corner. Now that Glen Helen Raceway Park is back on the schedule as the series opener, the Southern California facility has been a hotbed of activity in recent weeks. Today, the track was packed with pros who were getting their bikes set up in anticipation for the May 24 race…

Jessy Nelson and the rest of the Lucas Oil/Troy Lee Designs/Honda team were on hand to fine-tune their outdoor motocross suspension settings. Nelson was easy to spot on the track, as he was wearing his new TLD gear that he debuted in Las Vegas.

Brett Metcalfe was seen putting in laps throughout the day, getting adjusted to the factory Monster Energy Kawasaki that he will race throughout the summer. When defending champion Ryan Villopoto announced that he would sit out this summer’s series due to a knee injury, the popular Australian was an easy choice for the team as a replacement rider. Metty hauls!

With the hot weather Nationals come the extra cooling precautions. This oil cooler is on the factory Monster Energy Kawasakis. The Red Bull KTM’s, meanwhile, rely on a radiator fan to add extra cooling abilities to their machines.

The 2014 Red Bull KTM team graphics have a lot of blue in them. Jade Dungey, however, adds a little Blue Steel to the team.

The Muscle Milk Hondas aren’t the only bikes with Showa steering dampers these days. Both the Rockstar Energy KTM and Red Bull KTM teams have the part installed behind their numberplates.

Ryan Dungey just signed on as the premier motocross athlete for the new Sony ActionCam POV camera. We got our hands on one last week and will be putting it to the test very soon.
Wonder if this guy got the shot?
Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Cooper Webb hammered out a 20-mile mountain bike ride in the morning before heading to Glen Helen to get some motos in.

Recently crowned West Coast 250 Supercross Champion Jason Anderson was putting in some blistering laps, in spite of having a mouthful of gauze. The New Mexico rider had his wisdom teeth removed only a few days ago, and his face was visibly swollen. Check back later for a video interview with the champ.

Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart was involved in some important suspension testing throughout the day, and we tried several different sets of forks.

Former MX2 World Champion Christophe Pourcel was on hand to shake down his new Valli Motorsports Yamaha, along with new Team Manager Erik Kehoe.
Muscle Milk Honda’s Trey Canard and Justin Barcia were seen working with the Showa technicians throughout the day. The track was pleasantly rough today, according to many of the pros on hand.
