Wilson & Cianciarulo Top Qualifying In Daytona

Wilson & Cianciarulo Top Qualifying In Daytona

Monster Energy Supercross headed for the warm and sunny climate of western Florida for round ten at the Daytona International Speedway. The normally grassy infield of the racetrack was transformed into a course that separates itself from typical Supercross layouts, and as always, this year’s Daytona track is as rough and fast as what we’ve come to expect from the sole Florida round. Ruts are already deep, corners are already choppy, and as tonight’s race progresses conditions should deteriorate even further.

Tonight’s action will broadcast live on FOX SPORTS ONE at 7:30PM EASTERN TIME. Check your local listings for more information.

250 Timed Qualifying

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki continues to be the strongest team in the 250 East Coast series, and all three of their riders once again topped the qualifying charts after the third and final practice in Daytona. Cianciarulo’s teammates Blake Baggett and Martin Davalos qualified in second and third, with Baggett earning a time of 1:05.175 and Davalos a time of 1:05.863.

450 Timed Qualifying

Crashes riddled the 450 timed practices, but it was the 450 newcomer, Discount Tire/TwoTwo Motosports’ Dean Wilson, who spun the fastest lap of the day in the premier class with a top time of  1:05.968. Despite a nasty get-off earlier in the day, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto qualified in second with a time of 1:06.218, and Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart also shook off a tough crash to finish in the third spot with a best lap of 1:06.265.

Motosport.com backed rider Weston Peick and CycleTrader.com/Rock River/Yamaha’s Kyle Chisholm both attempted practice after midweek crashes left their nights in Daytona questionable, but after just a couple of laps, the two riders pulled off and headed back to the pits unable to continue. Peick will be getting an MRI on his injured back next week before determining if he will head to Detroit next week, and Chisholm is listed as day to day.

Also during qualifying, Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Barcia and GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac both went down hard, and their status for the night show is still unknown.
