Vista, CA (8/4/04) ¿ DC Shoes announced today it has signed Travis Pastrana, one of the most celebrated and skilled motocross riders in the world. In a move that demonstrates its commitment to motocross, DC is proud to add Travis to the company¿s already high-profile motocross team. Travis will ride DC-branded bike graphics as well as DC logos on his apparel and helmet. He is one of the only DC team riders to endorse both DC apparel and footwear.
DC President Ken Block said, ¿At 20 years old, Travis has accomplished more than most racers have accomplished in their entire career. He is one of the most visible icons in motocross and we are proud to welcome him to the DC team. With Travis aboard, we are assembling a motocross dream team of sorts¿we¿ve got Supercross legend Jeremy McGrath, the #1 motocross racer Ricky Carmichael, and now the #1 freestyler in the world, Travis Pastrana! We have admired Travis and his skills for a long time so we are eager to get this started, and Summer X Games is the perfect time for this all to happen.¿
On the new DC sponsorship, Travis said, ¿I have respected DC and the way it supports its teams for years and you can tell they really stand behind their riders. The marketing and the ads are the best in the industry so I am psyched about representing such a solid and supportive brand.¿
A native of Annapolis, MD, Travis started riding at age four with a one-speed Honda Z-50 and went on to win a string of National Amateur Motocross titles, becoming World Freestyle Champion at age 14, and an icon in the world of motocross. Travis claimed the 125cc MX National Champion title in 2000 and went on to become East Supercross Champion in 2001. He has taken the gold medal in Freestyle Motocross three years in a row at ESPN¿s X Games in addition to inventing many of the sport¿s tricks. On top of racking up a full resume of victories, he pens his own column for Racer X, and he recently completed his latest video called Travis and the Nitro Circus.
He is well on his way to establish himself as motocross¿ brightest rising star, with a huge amount of contest achievements. He has headlined ESPN¿s Sportscenter and ESPN: The Magazine, sat on the couches of both Jay Leno and David Letterman, been a guest star on Disney’s¿ The Jersey¿ and ¿Motocrossed¿, featured in Newsweek, and starred in almost every X Games commercial.
