Rider Quotes After New Orleans

Team Chevy Trucks Kawasaki’s Stephane Roncada: “I didn’t get that great astart but I focused hard and really put it together this weekend. I waslucky I didn’t get in a couple of crashes, and I rode hard for 20 laps. Inthe heat race I had a great jump off the gate but I thought the first turnwas a different line and I hit the brakes and started turning, and everybodyon my right side was probably going ‘what’s he doing?’ Then I realized thatwas the wrong part of the track and someone almost hit me.”

Team Honda’s Ricky Carmichael: “I wasn’t comfortable after practiceyesterday. I knew it was going to be a long weekend. That is part of 250ccsupercross. They don’t hand these wins away. Tonight was definitely a hardnight of me. On this track I think the harder you rode the slower you went.I was trying to push it too hard at the beginning and I had some bad linesthrough he whoops, definitely. I got sideways and a little out of control, but I held on to it and was able to squeeze by another win. My hat’s off toDavid; he rode good. It’s surprising how well he did and he didn’t racelast week. I hope he gets better and let’s let this thing go down to Vegas.I am not getting any breaks, that’s for sure, except last weekend. I amlooking forward to going to Houston I always do well there.”

Team Yamaha’s David Vuillemin: “The shoulder is a lot better than Daytona. There, I could not jump anything. (Tonight) I had to put on some heatingcream like for my ribs and it was hurting me at the end of the race. I madethe podium so that is pretty good. I hope I can ride good in Houston.Ricky is riding good. It’s going to be between him and me. He has a littlebit of an advantage because he is healthy, and he has confidence because hehas been winning a lot of races. I just want to go there and give it ashot. I want to go for it. After 10 laps I could not land on the triplesfront end down, and the whoops hurt too with the shock on my shoulder. I hadto adapt my riding style a little. I am really happy I made the podium. Inthe race for the championship 10 points is not very much.”

Team Moto XXX/DGY’s Larry Ward: “I just got off the gate really good and Iwas able to hold on a little bit longer than the guys on the inside. John(Dowd) is actually the reason I started riding 125 supercross this year. Hewas at my house practicing, and he brought an extra KTM 125 and I was ridingthat trying to help him get in shape and get faster. I felt like I wasriding pretty good, and I took my YZ250F out one day on a hard clay track, and I was a bit faster than him. My mom was out there that day and she is alittle to smart for my good, and she called the AMA and read the rulebook… she found out that I was eligible to ride. Two weeks before IndianapolisI called Kurt Haller (Team Owner) and if it would be all right if I rodeeast coast 125.”

Team Boost Mobile Yamaha’s Chad Reed: “It’s been going great. I guesseverybody wishes they could go five in a row. Fortunately, everything hasbeen going very well. I haven’t had too much bad luck. I guess I have beenmaking the right decisions at the right time. (Tonight) Langston definitelyhad me covered. I was struggling a little bit before. On this track I justcouldn’t find my rhythm. I just couldn’t go fast. I didn’t have it thisweekend. I basically let him by. He has been having problems lately witharm pump and things like that. I really didn’t think we were that far intothe race, but when I saw on the pit board two laps to go I said, ‘whoa’ Ibetter pull my finger out here. Grant and I were coming up on some lappers, and I finally got lucky and now I have won five in a row so I am reallyhappy. Tuesday or Wednesday I start testing a 250cc. Yamaha supplied abike. It should be interesting. I really want to ride that bike next year.I am going to go into the week thinking I am going to race it but there is achance that I might not race. If things are going goodnd I feel good Iwill race the 250cc.”

Team Redbull/KTM’s Grant Langston: “(The race) was good. I didn’t get offthe greatest of starts, but I was able to get through pretty quick. Icaught up to Chad (Reed) maybe too early, but I was able to make a break forit. I think he picked it up because I caught and he got by and he would tryand tag along with me and the two of us pulled away. I felt pretty good, but at lap 11 or 12 I started to tighten up. I still thought I had it inthe bag but with one and a half laps to go I came up through the whoops anda back marker just came right up in front of me and to the right and leftand cut me off I came to almost a complete stop and I had to go up on thehigh line and lost momentum. I think it was a good all around ride. I knowI can beat him. I really want to break his momentum. I think tonight Igave him a run for his money. I made him work for it. I honestly believeif the back marker didn’t get in my way I would have had that race won.”
