Earlier in the week at Zaca Station MX, Fox Racing Shox had an official introduction for their new motocross shock. The Podium RC3 is the company’s first major foray into motocross racing in nearly 25 years, and is a “coming home” of sorts, as Bob Fox’s first product was for motocross bikes back in the mid-’70s. With several new innovations, the shock appears to have some very forward thinking designs, and we had a chance to test out the new Fox product and came away impressed with the company’s initial offering. Be sure to look through the photo gallery below, then check out page two for a video of the new Podium RC3.

is that the shock Matt Lemoine had on his bike when he overjumped that monster hit at elsinore for the nitro circus?…nuff said if so.
April 2nd, 2009 at 6:08 pm
hey Lutes you said that was your kx450. why did you go with kawi instead of honda “the shootout winner?” what did you like on kawi over the honda? (was it the handling, power, or just plain out the look of the bike? haha)i’m looking into buying a new bike and i’m torn between the 2, your response would be greatly appreciated.

This player works just fine for me. Sorry for your situation onthepipe719. and id like to add I LOVE TWMX thanks guys for all your work and effort.

I actually picked the Honda first in the shootout, but being that Swap is the editor-in-chief, he got first pick on the bike he wanted and naturally he went with the Honda. As it has turned out, though, I’ve been very happy with the Kawasaki. I liked it a lot in the shootout and for me it was a very close second to the Honda. The KXF handles well, has great power (I’ve added a pipe, Loudmouth airfilter system, and changed the EFI mapping), and I haven’t had any problems to speak of yet. Hope that helps a little.

Not sure if it was, but I know that the Fox Shox guys said that they did a lot of pre-season testing with the Star team. There’s a very good chance Lemoine had the RC3 on his bike when he made that crazy leap!
April 2nd, 2009 at 6:23 pm
dude, if you think Lutes is a novice, your a f*ckin idiot.
April 2nd, 2009 at 6:23 pm
Yeah Lutes you were flyin’ last saturday! Are you racing the whole spring series?
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:17 pm
Lutes is missing a subframe bolt on the right side of his bike…
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:35 pm
my name was a joke…? sorry you geniuses didnt get it. see “genius”? that was a joke too..
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:52 pm
WHAT!!! YOU GUYS GET THOSE BIKES FOR FREE! THEY ARE JUST LIKE “HERE YOU GUYS GO TAKE YUR PICK!” I BET YOU LOVE YOUR JOB! :]
YOU GET TO RIDE ALL DAY ON A BUNCH OF BADASS BIKES THEN YOU GET TO HAVE YUR PICK AFTER THE SHOOTOUT IS OVER. WELL SECOND PICK IN YUR CASE. HAHA
DO YOU REALLY NOTICE A SUGNIFICANT POWER DIFFERENCE WHEN YOU CHANGE THE EFI MAPPING. LIKE COULD YOU CHANGE IT TO GET HUGE GAINS IN BOTTOM END?
I’M NOT REALLY WORRIED ABOUT POWER SINCE ALL THE 450′S HAVE GREAT POWER AS IT IS, I’M WORRIED ABOUT HANDLING.
I WANT THE BEST HANDLING BIKE OF THE 2. HONDA OR KAWI? I KNOW THEY HANDLE WELL, BUT WHICH ONE DID YOU FEEL HANDLES THE BEST???
THANKS FOR REPLYING MAN, IT MEANS ALOT. AND YOU ARE DEFFINITLLY HELPING ME OUT. I WAS THINKING ABOUT THESE 2 BIKES FOR A WHILE AND I WAS LIKE I’M GOING TO ASK MY BOY LUTES FOR ADVICE! HAHAHA

can’t wait to hear more on this shock. Nice video. I like the beard as well. Yeah lutes.
April 3rd, 2009 at 11:44 am
You should focus more on Lucas he rides so clean!!!and he is fast!!! certainly he will be on the front pack at the Nationals
April 3rd, 2009 at 12:08 pm
even if he was a novice, companies use riders of varying skill level to research their products. Suspension that would feel good for an A rider generally would not suite the needs of a beginner rider.
April 3rd, 2009 at 12:44 pm
You need to call up geek squad to adjust the compression settings for your computers flux capacitor… I had the same problem, and they hooked me up!
April 3rd, 2009 at 12:45 pm
Im happy to see the Loud Mouth on the KAWI! Your the man!

Hey LUTES!?
Is that a Vance & Hines exhaust your running. It looks similar to the old White Brothers Exhaust?
April 4th, 2009 at 9:58 am
Not sure if I’m gonna run the whole series. Those races are a blast though!
April 4th, 2009 at 9:58 am
Man, you scared me. I actually check the bike in the garage and the bolt is still in place
April 4th, 2009 at 10:00 am
Yeah it’s a Vance and Hines. I’m not sure of all the details behind it, but I think they actually bought all the tooling from White Brothers when WB went out of business, so that’s why it looks very similar to the WB systems. Works pretty good too
April 5th, 2009 at 5:43 pm
dude i used to race with lutes - he’s actually a sandbagging humble pro capable of racing ama nationals you idiot

April 14th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
I’m sorry, did he say that it felt a little harsh over small bumps so he backed out the bottom out resistance all the way? Some one explain that to me please.
April 15th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
Coolio, it’s pretty simple really. When you go faster over small choppy bumps, the shock begins to get pushed further into the stroke the faster you hit those bumps. Meaning, this is the portion of the stroke where the shock begins to bottom, thus the bottom out resistance affects this area of the shock performance. While the shock doesn’t bottom out completely on smaller choppy bumps like it would over a big jump, the bottom out clicker basically affects the final portion of the stroke. By backing this clicker out all the way, it eliminated the bottom out resistance and allowed the shock to move freely in the final portion of the stroke, eliminating the harshness that I felt in the chop. After that, I went back in on the bottom out clicker to give it more resistance in the final part of the stroke, but I didn’t go in as far as it was when it felt too harsh. In other words, the bottom out adjuster should probably be called, “the final portion of the stroke adjuster”. Hope that made sense. I wasn’t just saying something stupid in the video when I said that, it actually meant something…
