After taking several years off to pursue other interests, including enduro and off-road racing, former 125cc National Champion Guy Cooper will return to MX racing action this summer. “I just turned 40,” said Guy, “and I’m getting bored around the house!”
All joking aside, Coop has been training as intensely as ever in hopes of a solid performance at Glen Helen. His 40th birthday in February was a major motivator in Guy’s decision to return to racing. “I want to prove to the world that I can still be competitive at this age. I don’t feel I’ve lost much speed, and I think I will be competitive.”
Guy, who now works as a KTM South Central Sales Rep, will compete aboard an FMF-backed KTM520SX, modified to be a 540. Cooper is now in the process of adding sponsors, training, and preparing for the opening round on May 12, 2002 in San Bernardino, California. Even if he’s not in the lead, look for Guy to throw his legendary pancakes for the crowd!
