Seattle , WA — (December 10, 2007)
The 2nd Annual 2007 Snap-on Stars of Karting All-Star Classic at the Performance Racing Industry Show provided the opportunity for many of the elite in the four year racing community to come together in friendly karting competition. In addition, the world of two wheel motorsports was represented by Synergy Racing’s Heath Voss.
Voss as it turns out is a regular karter in his home state of Texas. He has been using karting as an additional training tool for many years due to its combination of high g-force loading, high speed, and physical fitness necessary to drive the kart. When the Snap-on Stars of Karting learned of Heath’s interest in karting, a deal was struck with Franklin Motorsports-Merlin Racing to compete at the All-Star Classic in Orlando, FL.
The event had a format of two practice sessions, a qualifying session, a pre-final, and ended with a 50 lap final. For Voss, this meant getting up to speed quickly which he accomplished by posting a 15th position qualifying time out of 19 total competitors. However, this position is misleading as Voss was .5 seconds off of the pole setter’s time. In the pre-final Voss used the event to learn further tricks as he followed drivers such as Marco Andretti (IRL, Andretti Green Racing), Jamie McMurray (NASCAR, Roush Racing), AJ Allmendinger (NASCAR, Red Bull Racing), and others that competed in the Master’s Class field. Voss took his learnings from the pre-final into the 50 lap final race and showed great progress as he finished in 12th place and recorded a fastest lap that was only .3 second off of the fastest lap in the race. Heath enjoyed the experience and is now working to prepare for the opening round of the 2008 Supercross series scheduled for Anaheim, CA on January 5, 2008.
