We first spotted Josh Lichtle a couple years ago at the World Mini GP in Las Vegas, while he was sidelined with an arm injury. During a break between races, he commandeered a bullhorn and a phony southern drawl, and did an awesome impression of Kenny, the NMA’s starter that had riders on the line and in staging doubled over in laughter.

But this year, we’ve been even more impressed as we watched him duke it out side-by-side with Kyle Partridge at the World Mini; and at Loretta Lynn’s, where he put in solid rides and beat Davi Millsaps on at least one occasion. While on the podium, he proved that he still has his sense of humor when he said, “I’ll miss Davi next year.”

Josh has been riding since he was three-and-a-half aboard a PW50, and started racing at four. While he’s not getting any tips from the old-school Michigan Mafia, he’s getting lots of support and coaching from his dad, Dave, as well as Ronnie Tichenor.

Current plans call for him to finish his amateur career in the A class, riding against competition like Adams, Casillas, Saylor and McGourty. He’ll continue traveling to races with his friends Nico Izzi and “Squirrel,” as well as his dad (who plans on selling his sprinkler business so that he can travel full-time with Josh) at the wheel of their traveling rig. And for ’05? He’s looking to make his East Coast Supercross debut, and that’s no joke.
