Supercross has descended onto the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, and the city of Indy has reciprocated with incredibly warm weather. For 2012, the always dynamic Indianapolis track features some burly whoops (they were actually tamed down a tad after first practice), a deep sand section, an over/under bridge, as well as a big triple directly out of a turn and an equalizing rhythm section.
Practice has come to a close, but it wasn’t without some drama before the final 15 minute session. In the open 250 A practice, Ken Roczen and Justin Barcia diced it up a bit, but an unwelcomed meeting of their machines put Roczen down in the sand, clearly fueling the rivalry headed into the night show. As well, Josh Grant, Nico Izzi, and Kyle Regal made their first appearances in some time. In other news, H&H’s Josh Hansen has been nursing what could be a broken foot, and his obvious favoring of the limb didn’t go unnoticed, nor did his early exit from the first practice session after a hard landing from a jump. We have since confirmed he will be unable to race tonight.
As you can see from the results below, the current number-one plate holders logged the fastest laps of the day in their respective classes. Geico Honda’s Justin Barcia has dominated the East Coast Lites class this season, and he continued to do so today in practice, edging out Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen. In the Supercross class, Ryan Villopoto and James Stewart traded hot laps, but in the end, it was RV2 who emerged with the fastest lap by 1/10th of a second. It should be a good night of racing…
