The fight for the 2012 Terex Australian Supercross Championship came down to the final round of the season at Newcastle. The four-round race series is essentially all new for 2012, as new promoters, tracks, and venues helped keep the sport in The Land Down Under after the former infrastructure collapsed.
Chad Reed came back to compete in the final three rounds, and his bid to close the gap in points between himself and Jay Marmont added a great storyline to the racing. Despite winning all of the main events he entered, including this weekend at his home round in Newcastle, it was not enough for Reed to overtake the point standings. With a second place finish at Newcastle to close the season, Marmont successfully defended his Pro Open title against Daniel McCoy and Reed.
Gavin Faith dominated the Pro Lites class all season, as the American took three of the four main event wins in his time abroad and added the title to his numerous amateur awards. Faith fended off the likes of Ryan Marmont and Kade Mosig, and was the only racer in the class to finish on the podium all season.
