The Kawasaki/Monster Energy Pro National at High Point Raceway presented by Centra Bank serves as the ultimate reward in the first annual “Read for Speed Challenge, presented by The Dominion Post, Racer Productions and Centra Bank. Seven second grade classes in Monongalia County, W. Va. — nearly 200 students — collectively read hundreds of books during the two-week contest period hoping to win the contest and enjoy a special day at the races this weekend.
The winning class will receive a pizza party at which they will be visited by a surprise Motocross athlete, plus each child will get a ticket to the 2007 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship, presented by FMF, at High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris, Pa. The child who read the most books will receive a special prize package including a racing jersey autographed by James Stewart, a set of Scott goggles, 4 VIP passes to the upcoming race at High Point, a tour of the Kawasaki Big Rig and a Racer X Swag Bag.
The winning class and the individual who read the most books will be announced on May 25. The contest kicked off on Monday, April 30 and ran through Tuesday, May 15.
The contest was well-received by many excited participants who look forward to the race. The Dominion Post’s Newspapers In Education program and Marketing department have already committed to coordinating next year’s second-annual event.
