Today, KTM USA unveiled the new 2015 450 SX-F Factory Edition, and the first-ever 250 SX-F Factory Edition bikes, both of which all the KTM-supported race teams will compete on in 2015. Sporting all-new chassis, engines, and bodywork, both bikes are striking in appearance and said to be shockingly improved over their standard SX-F counterparts on the track. Until now, past Factory Edition bikes had been improved versions of the standard SX-F machines, but in 2015, the FE bikes truly are a head-and-shoulders improvement that can be purchased “before their time.”

Red Bull KTM Team Manager Roger DeCoster is the main driving force behind the development of the Factory Edition bikes, and the bikes unveiled tonight are the culmination of over 18 months of research and development. “KTM has always built a great motorcycle, but they were never targeted at Supercross racing,” said DeCoster. “When I joined the  team, that was our main focus; to make a bike that would be competitive in Supercross, but at the same time still very applicable for motocross. I think that this new bike has accomplished that, and to prove it we will need to win races and championships with it, and that is never an easy thing to do. There are always so many guys who can win, but I feel that this is the best bike on the track and it will show. Of course we have Ryan Dungey who is a proven champion, as well as Marvin Musquin who has also won a lot. We also have two new guys on the team in Justin Hill and Dean Wilson. Hill has already proven since he has been here that he can win. His first 450 race at the Monster Energy Cup was a success, and I also expect big things from Dean Wilson in 2015.”

While the 450 SX-F Factory Edition is now in it’s fourth year of production, 2015 marks the debut of the KTM 250 SX-F Factory Edition.

Much of the evening’s buzz was focused on the all-new 2015 KTM 250 SX-F Factory Edition, which is in its first year of production. Like the 450, it has an all-new chassis and a completely redesigned engine. The horsepower figures that the race team is said to be coaxing out of the new powerplant (48 hp!) are staggering, and all of the KTM racers on hand at the unveiling reported that the powerband is by far, the most impressive aspect of the new machine. The 250 SX-F Factory Edition weighs in at seven pounds lighter than the standard SX-F.

The 2015 KTM 450 SX-F Factory Edition engine weighs two-pounds less than the standard SX-F powerplant. Check out the oddly shaped header pipe, which has an internal resonance chamber inside the fat part of the header.

While power was the talk of the 250 SX-F Factory Edition bike, word has it that the all-new chassis is what really shines about the 450 SX-F Factory Edition bike. Dean Wilson reported that the bike handles like a dream, and  that the bike has a super light and flickable feel. All told, the Factory Edition weighs in 10 pounds lighter than the standard version.
