Yes, it’s true, Grant Langston will be aboard a KTM 125 SX this weekend when the 2003 AMA National Series blasts off at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, CA.
Grant tested both a 125 and 250 last week. With his prior experience on 125s, was reportedly two seconds a lap faster on the small-bore than on the bigger bike. Swap had been pleading Grant’s case for a class change earlier this week with KTM’s U.S. Team Manager, Larry Brooks, and missed Grant’s call when word finally came down.
Grant wants another shot at a title in the U.S., and felt like he was robbed during the 2001 season when a DNF in the final moto of the championship chase cost him the title. Following injury-plagued title campaigns in both the outdoor and SX, he’s looking forward to running near the front of the pack again.
With James Stewart, Branden Jesseman and Danny Smith all sidelined with injuries, the playing field in the 125cc class appears a lot more level than many would have guessed it would be. Grant’s addition to the class makes it that much more interesting.
