CARLSBAD, Calif., (Jan. 8, 2007) — MDK Motorsports’ Nick Wey bolted out of the starting gate in 5th place and held his own through out the action packed main event at Anaheim Angels Stadium, racing home to a 7th place overall finish in the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series season opener.
“Nothing spectacular, I rode all right, said Wey, who’s beenhampered by a torn forearm muscle and unable to practice during the week. “Got a pretty descent start but just couldn’t seem to move up. I was comfortable with the pace, but not with the risk involved in the areas where I did have opportunities to pass. The track was pretty technical.
Wey rode a solid heat race to make the main, finishing 5th. The technical nature of the track would actually help Wey as is fastest lap time was 10th overall, though he was still able to hold onto his 7th place position and not let three of the faster racers past him.
This weekend Wey’s off to Phoenix’s Chase Field for Round Two of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series. Last year at Phoenix Wey finished 5th, right behind supercross legend Jeremy “Showtime McGrath.
