TransWorld Motocross spoke with Team Amsoil/Chaparral/Honda’s Michael Byrne late last night, and learned that the likable Australian suffered a badly broken thumb in a crash at the Honda test track. “I am having surgery on Tuesday; getting a pin put in it,” said Byrne. When we asked if this meant no Indy SX for him, we were surprised when Byrne replied, “Not sure yet. I am gonna wait and see how I feel after I get the pin in.”
Byrne currently sits fourth in the Eastern Region 125cc SX Series Championship, and a surprising eighth in the premier 250cc division. Burner was considered a heavy favorite entering the East Coast 125cc Series, but first-turn crashes have hampered him at both of the rounds run thus far. Byrne finished a very impressive fourth at the Anaheim III and San Diego rounds before switching classes when the series headed east. Here’s hoping that somehow, Byrne can ride through the pain and continue to turn in stellar on-track performances.
