With one round remaining in the 2009 Monster Energy Supercross series, emotions are running very high between the top two contenders Chad Reed and James Stewart—especially after the main event in Salt Lake City. But the extremely close Supercross class championship battle isn’t the only news. In SLC, Ryan Dungey was crowned West Coast Lites champion after finishing a safe fourth place, and Trey Canard took his first win of the season. For more on everything else that went down in the first race inside Rice-Eccles stadium since 2004, check out the photo gallery below. Oh 1st on a Monday Kickstart.

Lutes put this up and the site, and luckily I was in the right place at the right time, and was quick off the mark, I was out of the gates quicker than alessi on a Saturday night, I’m stoked.

I probably should have been working rather than sitting on the internet reading motocross stuff, so id also like to give thanks and apologies to my boss, my lack of productivity is partly due to this site.

Thanks guys, see you next article

  • i am indeed ready Says:

pisses me off how people always complain that chad reed “whines” when stewart does just as much. I mean listen to his interview post race he says crap about how chad reed was trying to take him out and all this b.s. and for one thing chad isnt, 2 if he wanted to he would of, 3 rubbing is racing chill out and 4 shut up (stewart) you’ve taken people out in the past and you will take people out in the future. just the way you are

  • tampabayjay Says:

The look on DeCosters face…PRICELESS! Why a man who owns this sport has to put up with the James Stewart posse’s antics is beyond me.

  • ronster Says:

Did anyone else notice that Stewart looked a little nervous or uncomfortable during the podium interview? He smiled but it wasn’t that ‘million dollar smile’

  • ouri Says:

why cant i see the rest of the text???

  • CN313 Says:

ya i think he was taken back by the amount of boo’s he was getting, it was crazy everybody was against him for what happened with chisolm.

  • Anonymous Says:

james stewart and everyone in his “posse” are pieces of 5h1t

  • Anonymous Says:

    oooh, youre a tough guy

  • CRFyou Says:

i remember watching RC smoke james stewart outdoors a couple years ago. james got so aggressive and desperate that he grabbed too much throttle, and he effing landed on RC’s back…. actually there are multiple instances of james taking out RC because james couldn’t pass him.

reed parked him. big deal. they’re racing for a championship. i would expect some rad parkage. shit… guys at the track do that to each other in practice here.

where is the love for trey not one pic in the whole monday kickstart

  • Brendan Lutes Says:

My bad. I thought it was in there, but obviously it wasn’t. It’s fixed now. He’s in there now :-)

  • Slot001 Says:

Chad Reed def tries to take Stewart down every chance hes gotten for about a month, im not sure if you watch the races or anything.. James was just about to pull away from Reed anyways when his teamate screwed up.. Big James was probly just saying that they ahd nothign to do with that whole incident, and not to get allessi involved. Those Yamaha guys are true sportsmen, i think! James is the most proffessional out there right now, the chad is having temper tantrums! If that was stewart getting hit while he was in 2nd, he still would have won. Alessi vs Stewart, live in Las Vegas

  • Jake511 Says:

I am neutral on Reed Vs. Stewart; let me get that out of the way right up front. I was sitting 4 rows up in front of Chisholms now infamous corner and what he did was 100% intentional. He came through the whoops, stopped and looked back, then waited for Stewart to pass and then pinned it to get in front of Reed and stood him up over the first jump before the table. He then continued to race him down that section and took Reed high in the corner, where he then tried to take Reed down. Had he been being passed for a position, no harm no foul, but he was being LAPPED. The flaggers were emphatic at pointing to riders and waiving the blue flag. Team tactics are a fact and that is just fine except when the team is being lapped. The whole San Manuel team should be penalized for this BS stunt and should be set in the rule book from now on.

Stewart probably would have won anyway, but maybe not. Now we will never now. Team Suzuki and the fans were robbed, but I’m sure Chisholm made out pretty well on the deal.

  • d-bone Says:

    cry,cry,cry
I remember when James slowed down in a outdoor national to let Chaddy catch up…then proceed to put a 1 minute gap back on him very, very easily.
Reed’s no where near as fast..period. But he’s good at tackling rear wheels…his secret weapon..

  • bigdaddyfromcincinnati Says:

reed or stewart who wins in vegas this weekend

  • that guy Says:

Click the picture to enlarge it to see the whole caption, or just use the thumbnail option. I swear they’ve been “working” on that bug for a year.

  • that guy Says:

The thing that pisses me off so bad is that for once Reed had managed to stay on Stewarts rear wheel, and with the way the corners of that track were set up for passing, with as close as they still were it was anyones race and 2nd had quite the power position as we saw with the earlier passes.

Think about it, we might have gone into Vegas with a TIED championship. I don’t care who you want to win, we’re all here to see the racing, and the fact that Chisolm saw fit to take that away from all of us should shame him to no end.

Reed’s a bigger man than myself, I would have had Chisolm’s throat before his bike hit the ground. If you watch the replay, Chisolm stops, he see Stewart make a mistake at the end of the whoop section and Reed close up, and then makes the decision to jump in behind Stewart and give Reed the business. I don’t think it was collusion between Stewart and Chisolm, Stewart does not need to cheat to win, just stay on two wheels, and I imagine Chisolm saw his friend in danger of losing a spot and make a last second, incorrect decision.

  • Stee-J Says:

Pic #46’s caption is ioncorrect. Broc Helkper crashed vioulently at press day at SEATTLE, not SLC

  • Luke Vanlauwe Says:

yah, the reed and Chisholm incident was airy im not sure if bubba would have been able to escape from reed that quickly but im pretty sure bubba didnt expect that out of his team mate and is getting alot of shit from something he didnt do!! it will be interesting to see the las vegas main start? wondering if chad and allessi will retaliate…i hope not that would give the suzuki team a bad rep and with all of the talent they have had in the years past i hope they do what is right. • Anonymous Says:

i wish all you rednecks would quit using the term “rubbing is racing”. this isnt the no talent NASCAR circuit where they only make left turns. as for reed he is the only rider that has ever cried on the podium because he didnt win and stewart has 11 wins and reed has three, that tells us who the better rider is. go back to your couch and rub your crotch thinking about your crybaby reed!

  • Anonymous Says:

decoster hardly owns this sport. accomplished as he is in his day it wasnt until carmichael came along and made suzuki what they are these days and now a rider like reed is making them all look bad and destroying what respect ricky had worked so hard to get for them and decoster. although i really dont care for this whole l&m ,san manuel b.s. team. didnt like it when reed rode for them and dont like it now.

  • Anonymous Says:

NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENED IN THE PAST OR WHAT THE OUTCOME OF THIS SEASON IS, ANY RIDER THAT THROWS AS MANY TEMPER TANTRUMS AND BITCHES AND MOANS AS MUCH AS REED DOES,DOES NOT DESERVE ANY RESPECT. GETTING UPSET OR BEING DISAPPOINTED IS ONE THING BUT JUST DOWNRIGHT ACTING LIKE A 5 YEAR OLD THAT DIDNT GET A TOY IS UNACCEPTABLE AT THIS LEVEL. I FEEL SORRY FOR ELLIE HAVING TO DEAL WITH HIM EVERY WEEK AFTER HE LOSES, ITS AMAZING SHES STILL THERE, GOOD THING HES GOT THE DOUGH TO KEEP HER.

  • Anonymous Says:

IT TELLS ME HE DRINKS HIS YOOHOO AND EATS HIS BEAN PIES.

  • Anonymous Says:

HOW ABOUT WE JUST GIVE REED THE TITLE SO HIM AND HIS LAME FANS WILL JUST SHUT UP AND QUIT CRYING ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • JeffMo107 Says:

stewart is a whinny punk. he thinks he owns the sport and he gets all pissy when he gets challenged, like he expects people to just move over and get out of the way.

  • Anonymous Says:

what color is the worst flag you can get?????

  • Pitbikes Says:

All done now but I think it should all be shady racing. Too many crybabies out there. Bar banging should be status quo. Hell nascar does it with 2000lbs cars why cant the racers in MX do it too? They can get better gear and go full contact. Backyard racing at its finest. I know Bubba and Chad and Ricky Are FAST. Just not sure the type of Winners they are yet. Not sure who I would want my kids to look up to at this moment. I guess I will let them watch Jeff Ward racing supermoto instead. JW is a winner. The new guys need to carry a page of JEff's book in their helmet for each race.
