Monday Kickstart - Unadilla

40 years of legendary motocross racing marked the eighth round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships this weekend.  Racing legends from many different eras all joined in the fun  for what was dubbed a “retro” National.  By most accounts, Unadilla was viewed as the rough track so far this year, despite, or perhaps because of the excellent prep done on the track.  As we head into next weekend at Budds Creek, Chad Reed is now the undeniable points leader in the 450 Class while the battle rages on in the 250s between Christophe Pourcel and Ryan Dungey.  Dual points leaders coming into ‘Dilla, Pourcel now has a six-point advantage as the series heads to Maryland.  But rest assured, the championship is far from over.

    what does UFD stand for

  • Rider551 Says:

Unadilla is the "rough" track..? You gotta be kidding. The tracks these days are carpets.! And the baby's that ride them these days like to find any complaint they can if they don't do well. Unadilla is a mans track and compared to what it used to be it is unbelieveably easy.!! Back when "men" raced motocross Unadilla used to be all natuarl and brutally tough. Riders didnt cry about a rock breaking their knuckles or hittinig them in the chest…….its part of racing…..and motocross used to be a much tougher sport. The easy to ride 4-strokes and the whining about track conditions has made the sport so soft, it's embarrassing to pay $65 to watch a pro race. Lets get back to what RACING motocross is all about.

  • mikaelblomgren Says:

I dont agree with you at all. Do you know what pace these guyes running compare to back in the days? If the track is so easy, run it at the pace these pros rider do then? I have not hear a rider complain about a broken nuckle or whatever, of course it use to be tougher ? The bikes basically was that much worse and couldnt absorb all the bumbs , jumps, ruts, whatever it maybe as good as a modern bike, but when you fall down on a track like unadilla in the pace the pros running it hurts ? Did you see Glen Helen first round the track was a mess. Its not easy at all to ride these tracks, if it would be they wouldnt make mistakes, but even the best makes mistake, why ? Cause they run in a pace that is unbelivable on hard tracks. If you dont want to pay those 65$ bugs for see the amazing action, well stay at home the sport dont need crying negative fans.

  • Jimmy Says:

You'd cry if you had to run their pace in two 35 min motos.
Only say they whine if you can do it without whining

  • The Truth Says:

Totally agree. The speeds of today compared to the yester years are completly different. I didnt see those guys in the day jumping Laroccos leap or goin through the millville whoops wide open. Its like comparing the early years of formula one to now, there is no comparison but the name.

    whats up with j law?

  • isaac Says:

I think JLAW and HILL are gonna snoodle the rest of the season!!

  • Thuggy Says:

Jlaw and Hill should make their own team. They could call it: We have the skill but dont care because we would rather party, get MIPs, and roll cars.
They could take over the Jagermeister sponsorship

  • Travisbarber Says:

Did Swap write the monday kickstart this week? Seems like there are a few too many grammatical errors for that…

  • mxr515 Says:

  • noone cares Says:

he was the aussie national champ last year who reed used to help out (no doubt still does)
but he crashed really heavily at the last round of the titles this year and was in a coma for about a week i think! very heavy

  • your mate Says:

young guy from aus races lites had a massive crash in coolum recently and isnt in a good way

  • Elliott Blakeley Says:

James Stewart would smoke anyone in the 250 class on a 125 two-stroke so 'mikaelblomgren' dont talk about their pace.

  • bayodome Says:

Haha, thanks slot001. Yeah we typically write all of this stuff either really late at night or in the wee hours of the morning so grammatical errors are inevitable, althoug we do try to avoid them as much as possible. Glad you appreciated the work though:)

  • Mancha Says:

I'm REALLY glad TransworldMX scrapped the stupid Flash image player. Simpler is better!

  • mikaelblomgren Says:

And you are how old? Smoke the 250F class on a 125 two stroke, no i dont think he would, cause even bubba himself said THE 125 2 stroke is one of the slowest bike he ever raced "as a pro" so stfu , it seems like you dont know a shit about the pace. Elliot Blak-gay

  • mikaelblomgren Says:

No he wouldnt smoke them on a 125 two-stroke Elliot. Even James Himself said the 125 is so much slower, even in 04 when the 250F´s wasnt that good, but they were still better. How do you get james stewart in this comment at all? The pace is unbelivable and according to what you just post, no he wouldnt smoke the 250 class, he would be a front runner top 10 but nothing more, cause he would be so underpower vs the 250 F, even the 250F can challenge a 450F with the right rider on so please stop tall bullshit Elliot Blakeley.

  • bayodome Says:

Ok, I usually don't comment on these topics, but did you watch Stewart race on the 125 back in '04? Don't forget that he was only one moto off from having a perfect season against nearly an entire field of 4-strokes. Furthermore, he was consistently the second fastest person on the track in either class…second only to Carmichael who was riding a 450, and often their times differed by just tenths of a second. Sure the 250Fs have improved, as has overall rider skill, but go on youtube and watch some races of Stewart in 2004…he was incredible and, I believe, that year he elevated the ideas what could be done on a motorcycle.

  • mikaelblomgren Says:

babydome of course i did ! But i remember stephane Roncada was there with him on a old 250F at Hangtown. Of course james would rip it on a 125 2 stroke, but i dont think he would be top five at a national in 2009 in the 250F class? Since R.V smoke the 450F field on a 250F i would find it hard to see a 125 2 stroke do the same vs 450F , or even 250F since the 250F is that much better. I also watched the last glen helen round he raced the 250F he was racing even faster than a 125, and the 250F 5 years ago and now its a big different, do you honestly think he would "according to Elliot" smoke the field on a 125 ? Yeah he did good on 250 2 stroke but the 250 2 stroke and the 450 4 stroke is smaller gap, then a 125 and a 250F . Im a big fan of a 2 stroke and i love to watch 04 season dvd when j.s rode a 125, but he would be underpowerd. IF james is that good he could choose a 250 2 stroke and race, but he will not do that , cause he knows its hard to race 20 solid laps on a 2 stroke ,

  • mikaelblomgren Says:

he also said " he had nightmares about that kawasaki 250 2 stroke, and the 125 was the slowest bike he ever raced. Put J.S on a 125 2 stroke against the best 250F riders in the world, he would be a solid top ten for sure, but no way he would smoke the field, if he "could prove me wrong " i would love to see that, but im realistic. Its boring to not see the 2 smokers out there. Ask Ryan hughes what he thinks about the 125 vs the 250F " james said in glen helen 04 when he rode a 250F " was i even racing out there, it was so easy. When he rode the 125 he just pined that 2 stroke to its full potential. Take larrocos leap, i dont think j.s jumped that on a 125 at all, but these guyes making it easy on the 250F ? But i agree with you , he was really really good, and it was awsome to see him win the 04 season on a 125 2 stroke vs 250F but that was 5 years ago i think the progression of the bikes and sports itself is better, faster and rougher.

  • mikaelblomgren Says:

Also / if you watch the videos with ryan dungey training / living at J.S house he let Ryan Dungey start of a few seconds ahead, and he caught him of course " james had he´s 450F " but Dungey wasnt that far back, that to me proves that a 125 2 stroke wouldnt have a chance vs 250F " and also Chad Reed / Tim ferry / Michael byrne said last year : A 250 2 stroke wouldnt have a chance vs 250F? Only Steve Matthews said the opposit. So lets be honest , james wouldnt smoke the field on a 125 2 stroke, but of course he would be a solid top 10 rider.

  • mikaelblomgren Says:

"But" if someone could keep the 250F honest on a 2 stroke 125 it would be james stewart, no one else in the world rode the 2 strokes as good as him. I cant deny that for sure. Bring the 2 smokes back!

  • mikebrownsound Says:

Mancha i totally agree!!! I wouldnt call the FIP stupid but this is definitly more friendly to use :) good work TMX! Gotta love the Kickstars! :D

  • FRO Says:

barcia didnt take stroupe out in motot 1 of the unadilla race. stroupe tried to run down on the inside of him and got pinched off. stalled his bike then fell off trying to get going when k-dub roosted his whining ass. he didnt lose his glove either…he took it off and threw it down.
