Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki-backed Grant Langston places fourth at Pontiac (Mich.) supercross ¿ good enough for series points championship
CARLSBAD, Calif., (April 11, 2005) ¿ Lake Elsinore¿s (Calif.) Grant Langston became the first athlete in motocross/supercross racing history to capture three different 125cc class championships, winning his third ¿ the THQ/AMA Supercross Series¿ Eastern Region 125 class title ¿ this past Saturday night at the Pontiac (Mich.) Silverdome.
¿My career¿s had its ups and downs, but it¿s been worth it,¿ said Langston, who now owns 125 class Supercross titles in World GP Motocross, the AMA Nationals Motocross Series and Supercross.
Langston, who dominated his heat race (1st) to make the main event, made things interesting in the final race as he finished fourth overall behind race winner Josh Hansen. The two actually tied for the overall points lead at season¿s end (both with 143 points), but Langston was awarded the title by virtue of a tie breaker that rewards the racer with the most wins in the seven race series points chase. Langston had three wins in the seven race series, while Hansen had two wins.
¿I definitely didn¿t ride the race I¿d have liked to,¿ said Langston following the contest. ¿Josh (Hansen) rode well and I just tried to be there in the end.¿
Langston¿s Monster Energy teammate Matt Walker would finish 20th overall in the 125 main event, scoring one point and winding up the season in 7th place overall.
This weekend the 125 Western Region series resumes with Monster Energy¿s Ivan Tedesco taking a commanding lead ¿ 36 points over second place Nathan Ramsey – into the last two races (Seattle & Houston). Tedesco¿s teammate, Paul Carpenter is in 22nd place, but scored a 6th place finish at the last Western Region round (San Diego).
The Monster Energy Drink/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki Eastern Region supercross team ¿ featuring Tedesco and Carpenter ¿ return to action this Saturday (April 16th) at the Seattle¿s Qwest Ballpark for the second-to-last round of the 2005 THQ/AMA Supercross Series¿ 125 Western Region championships.
