Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto Captures Western SX Lites Region Title

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 19, 2007) — Only having to finish 5th or better this weekend clinch the overall Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series’ Western Lites championship, Monster Energy-backed Ryan Villopoto (Pro Circuit/Kawasaki) instead took off and led every lap of the entire race to win the overall title with one race (Seattle) remaining on the Western schedule.

Quick to applaud the entire Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team, Villopoto is another chapter in an amazing story with this team. Not since 2003, when another Monster Energy-backed rider, James Stewart, won the Western Lites title has a team other than Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki been awarded the No. 1 Western Lites plate.

“I can’t thank the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team enough, said Villopoto. “They put me where I am now.

Despite again putting up the fastest times in practice, Villopoto recovered from a get-off in the second practice session and won his heat race (No. 2) to make the main. In the main teammate Chris Gosselaar was able to guide his Pro Circuit-tuned Kawasaki KX250F to the holeshot, after which Villopoto soon took the lead and never looked back.

“I’d like to congratulate Ryan. He rode great all year, said Gosselaar from the podium (3rd).

Gosselaar gave credit on his return to excellence to his doctor, who he said put him back together after his crash at San Francisco.

“I rode a little bit tight tonight, but couldn’t have done it without my doctor and the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team, he said. “Felt real good to run up front again.

Villopoto won the main by more than seven seconds over 2nd place Jason Lawrence.

With the Eastern Lites series starting up this weekend, Villopoto will begin training for the Outdoor National season.

Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team is Round  Eight of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.
