CORONA, Calif., (July 9, 2007) — Monster Energy-backed supermoto racer Mark Burkhart (Graves/Yamaha) made it three AMA Supermoto class wins in a row, this past Sunday capturing the AMA Detroit Supermoto round at Waterford Hills Raceway in Clarkston, Mich.
With the dominating effort Monster Energy’s Burkhart is now in sole possession of first place overall in the premier AMA Supermoto class standings, leading defending series champion Jeff Ward 93-87.
“My Graves Motorsports/Yamaha team set me up with the fastest bike out there, said Burkhart. “Wardy and Cassidy (Anderson) rode well, but I had everything going right today and was able to win.
Burkhart’s top lap time of 1:02.313 was the fastest on the day, topping Ward’s charge-from-behind time of 1:02.464.
In 2nd place in the AMA Supermoto Lites class was Monster Energy-backed Brandon Currie. The Yamaha racer pulled the holeshot and led before being passed by series rival David Pingree. The two separated from the rest of the pack and Currie rode a consistent race to 2nd place overall. Currie and Pingree are now tied for 1st place overall in the Lites class points chase, each with two wins and two 2nd place finishes through four rounds totaling 94 points.
The next AMA Supermoto Championship race for the Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha supermoto racers, according to the AMA’s schedule, is the Aug. 25-26 New England Supermoto Classic at Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, Conn.
