CARLSBAD, Calif., (Dec. 11, 2006) — In classic Ricky Carmichael come-from-behind fashion, the all-time winningest motocross racer took it to the heir-apparent to his throne (James Stewart), reeling in and passing his fellow Floridian to take the lead and eventual win in the Supercross class main event this past Saturday at Vancouver’s B.C. Place.
With his winning effort on the final Canadian round of the Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP Series, Carmichael (Makita/Suzuki) took over the points lead from former supercross champion Chad Reed, 47-45.
“I got the point lead and we’re heading into the holidays and I’m going to go test some cars now, said Carmichael, who’s racing a partial supercross season in order to focus on NASCAR development. “Looking forward to getting back for Anaheim 1 and Phoenix, but definitely enjoyed my time racing here in Canada.
In his rise to the top of the podium in Vancouver, Carmichael had to play some catch up with rival James Stewart. This set the stage from a late-race pass in which Carmichael was able to track down the young superstar and move into the lead on lap 16.
“I just wanted to keep him (Stewart) in sight and give myself a chance at the win towards the end, said Carmichael. “He (Stewart) wasn’t 100-percent, but I’ll take it. Good to get another win for
