Monster Energy’s Ricky Carmichael Wins His Second Outdoor National In a Row, Going 1-1 at High Point

CORONA, Calif., (May 29, 2007) — Monster Energy-backed Ricky Carmichael (Makita/Suzuki) is sure creating a stir on the AMA Toyota Motocross Series tour. The all-time winningest MX racer on the planet — who says he’s only going to race five Nationals this summer during his retirement tour — has won the first two, covering fellow Monster Energy-backed rival and ’07 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series champion James Stewart (Monster Energy/Kawasaki) with a convincing 1-1 performance at High Point (Mt. Morris, Pa.) on Sunday.

“I’ve always enjoyed racing here at High Point, the fans here have always been very good to me, said Carmichael.

In the first moto Carmichael got out in 4th place, settled in, then made a charge towards the lead worthy of a championship battle. The fast Floridian made quick work of factory Honda racers Davy Millsaps and Andrew Short, then set his sights on race leader Stewart. Coming from behind, Carmichael put two seconds on Stewart’s fastest lap time (1:58.488 to 2:00.436) and caught the reigning supercross champ on lap 13 (of 17) and then held him off easily for the overall win.

In the second moto Carmichael just flat out dominated from the beginning, leading wire-to-wire to take the checkers and the overall win. With the effort Carmichael extended his overall Outdoor National points lead to ten points over Stewart, 97-87.

Next up for the Monster Energy’s Carmichael is the June 10th Southwick National (Southwick, Mass.) at Motocross 338, Round Three of the 2007 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship.
