Moto XXX: Thrilla at the `dilla

Buckelew Leads Moto XXX¿Rumors Fly

Despite being wounded and without the services of veteran ace, Kyle Lewis, Team Honda/Moto XXX pulled up to the grassy Unadilla motocross facility with an optimistic outlook. Justin Buckelew had put in a season-best performance at the previous round of the AMA Motocross Nationals and appeared to be settling into a nice mid-season form. The hopes of the team were centered on ¿Bucky¿s¿ continued success. By Sunday evening, Justin and the crew had exactly what they wanted; good results and the motivation that comes along with them.

Armed with the incredibly powerful Moto XXX Honda CRF450R, Buckelew was focused on getting good starts and he couldn¿t have done any better. He finished the weekend with a pair of holeshots, which have become pretty standard for the Moto XXX thumpers. Allan Brown (Team Manager) may have asked him to pick up some of the injured Kyle Lewis¿ slack, but this is getting spooky.

After the starts, Bucky¿s speed was consistent. As with the previous round, he had to overcome some small mistakes on the track, but still recorded a solid 13th overall finish. Just as important, he moved up another spot to 18th in the standings. With six rounds to go¿and confidence that increases by the week¿Justin and his team don¿t plan to stop there.

The fact that Moto XXX riders holeshot the fastest bikes and racers in the world on a pretty regular basis sparks regular interest in their engines. The exposure is always good, but it¿s bad when someone distributes a press release stating that a Honda support team with a 3-letter name was found to be running ¿big-bore¿ kits. With that circulating, it was understandable when many readers assumed that Moto XXX was the team involved. When rumors of that nature get started, the record must be set straight. None of the Moto XXX race bikes were torn down or involved in any type of inspection other than the normal tech and sound checks done at every race. There were two Honda support teams that had bikes torn down at Unadilla, but to the knowledge of everyone at Moto XXX, neither was cited for any type of violation. Moto XXX engines are always built within the rules and maintain completely stock displacement. Regardless of the source¿s credibility, Moto XXX takes any accusations or rumors of cheating, whether direct or implied, very seriously, as do the other teams affected. It might sound like an easy answer, but those Honda¿s are just great motorcycles!

Finally, here¿s an update for Kyle Lewis fans: ¿Lucky¿ is planning on riding the next round in Lakewood, CO. His broken thumb is obviously still a problem, but he¿ll give it as much time as possible and evaluate at the track.
