Colton Aeck, 17 Granada Hills, CA Sponsors: TREMX.com, Troy Lee Designs, Simi Valley Cycles, Focus Apparel, X Brand Goggles, Maxima, FMF, Independent Suspension, Works Connection During the pro classes at Round 5 of the TWMXRS Fall Cup at Glen Helen, we heard the sound of a two-stroke ripping around the track in the mud. When we spotted the YZ250 on the track in the Pro Open class, the rider was putting in clean smooth laps in the wet and muddy conditions Glen Helen offered up for the race. Colton Aeck was piloting the YZ and putting a big gap between himself and second place. We caught up with Aeck in the pits between races to find a family run effort as his father was hurriedly cleaning and wrenching on the Yamaha to get it ready for the next upcoming pro moto. How long have you been riding? I’ve been riding since I was about 6, so I’ve been riding for quite a while. I started at a young age. How old were you when you started racing? I started racing when I was 7, so it’s been 10 years of racing. When did you join the pro class? I did my first pro race at the Summer Series race at Perris so about four months ago. What were your biggest races this year? The biggest one I’ve done is probably A Day in the Dirt. Other than that we’ve been keeping it local. How did you do at A Day in the Dirt? At Day in the Dirt I won a couple classes, got a couple seconds and then had some bike problems in some other ones, but overall it was a good weekend. What do you think of the conditions this week at Glen Helen compared to last week for Day in the Dirt? The conditions are pretty tough this weekend. They got a lot of rain so the track is pretty muddy, but it is actually really good and seems to be working out well. What do you do besides moto? I mountain bike, working out and training. That’s pretty much about it and just hang out with friends and being a kid. What do you do for training? It goes back to the mountain biking, cycling and a little bit of light weight lifting How often do you ride during a week? I usually ride 2-3 days a week, if I am lucky I will ride 4 days a week. What are your plans for 2013? My plans for next year are to get my pro license so I have to take care of that first and foremost. Then if all goes well I will be doing the 2013 outdoor nationals. Which races are you going to race to get your pro points? I will race at the Loretta qualifiers to get my points. That’s pretty much all there is now.
