With his heart in the 250cc class, but his championship hopes in the 125cc division, it looks like Chad Reed will not be an entry in this weekend’s Houston 250cc SX.
“Though I want to compete, I think that Yamaha would rather play it safe,” said Reed, in between shots on his new birthday pool table. “It was a possibility, but it really doesn’t look good.”
Reed couldn’t comment on the Dallas round, but did state that if he did indeed show up to support Yamaha’s David Vuillemin in the premier division, it would be aboard a full works Yamaha YZ250.
“The bike I raced at the first few rounds was basically a modified stocker,” he said. “If I do race more 250 events, I’ll have the same basic bike at Vuillemin and McGrath.”
Reed, who just turned 20, is five-for-five in the Eastern Region 125cc SX Championship Series and thus far undefeated aboard his Zach White-tuned Yamaha YZ250F.
“Obviously, my goal this year is to win both the SX and outdoor National Championships,” said Reed. “I am looking forward to racing outdoors. I like SX and outdoors equally, and one of the reasons I came to America is that here we get to do both!”
