Practice Makes Perfect in Phoenix

In the midst of Phoenix’s coldest stretch on recent record, the racers of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross took to a chilly track inside Chase Field this afternoon to dial in lap times and hot lines. Tacky, clay-ish soil, technical rhythm sections, an atypical long triple out of a flat turn, and a sand sweeper combine for a puzzle of a track. A pair of Honda’s took the fast lap times in the first practice session, those of Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Barcia and Geico Honda’s Eli Tomac. The second practice, however, proved much different. Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen logged the fastest Lites time of the afternoon, while James Stewart, bum knee and all, clicked off the fastest lap in the premier class.
