Practice Report : 2012 Monster Energy Cup

Practice for the second running of the Monster Energy Cup at Sam Boyd Stadium just outside of Las Vegas has concluded with Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey turning in the fastest lap of the day with a 1:08.217. Behind him, last year’s one-millon dollar winner Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto was second quickest with a time of 1:08.588. Third went to Geico Honda’s Eli Tomac—regularly aboard a 250f, but it riding a CRF450R tonight—as he posted a time of 1:08.814. In his first race aboard his Muscle Milk Honda, Justin Barcia qualified fourth, while MotoConcepts’ Jake Canada recorded an impressive time for fifth. Other notable riders were Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer, JGR/Toyota/Yamaha’s Josh Grant, and TwoTwo Motorsports/Honda’s Chad Reed who qualified sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively.

In other news, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo was the quickest of the Amateur All-Stars class with a time of 1:12.296, while Kawasaki’s Mark Worth was the fastest rider in the Supermini class. The track also took a couple riders out, as both Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett and Geico Honda’s Kevin Windham will both be sitting out the evening show after crashing and suffering injury—Baggett injured his wrist and K-Dub suffered a concussion. Racing begins at 7:00 and is live on SPEED Channel, so be sure to take a look at your local listing for more info.
