SUPERCROSS QUALIFYING
Supercross Heat 1
Josh Grant on the Toyota/JGR/Yamaha took the holeshot followed closely by Moto Concept’s Ben Coisy. Grant quickly opened up a lead as Yamaha rider Josh Hill began to pressure Coisy for third. Meanwhile, Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki’s Chad Reed started around ninth, but by the third lap had worked his way up to fifth place behind Red Bull/Honda rider Ivan Tedesco. On lap four Hill, Tedesco, and Reed all got around Coisy with hill putting in some blistering speed to separate himself. Further back, Monster Energy/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto struggled with a terrible start but by the sixth lap he had worked his way up to sixth. In the closing turns, hill had clearly closed in on Grant, although, Grant seem to ease his pace in the closing laps.

A First turn pileup claimed Red Bull/Honda’s Davey Millsaps , Jagermeister/MDK/KTM’s Josh Summey, and Monster Energy/Kawasaki rider Tim Ferry. On the second lap, Stewart charged into the lead after the whoops and into the right hander. In third place was Red Bull/Honda’s Andrew Short and fourth was Geico Powersports/Honda’s Kevin Windham. Showing some new found confidence after making his first main last weekend, San Manuel/L&M/Yamaha’s Kyle Chisolm held down a solid fifth place in front of Seaspan/Troy Lee Designs/Honda’s Steve Boniface by the fourth lap. While the top eight were well separated on the sixth lap, a battle raged on for the final transfer position between Paul Carpenter and Jake Marsack. Stewart took a confident win, even without his wig from the opening ceremonies, logging a 48.78 lap on the fourth lap.

Well all you Chad Reed fans what kind of excuse are you going to come up with this time. Looks like James is starting to become one with his bike, might be a long season for anybody that isnt Bubba fan. HA HA
February 1st, 2009 at 2:59 am
Why would we need an excuse? Reed is the one who is doing the work, not us. Looked like he got beat straight up tonight, no shame in that, James is a wonderfully talented rider and Reed has done a fine job this year but will need to step it up a little more to battle James.

chad sucks??
what are you 10 years old..
have some appreciation for the riders.
you are by no means in any position to say any of these riders suck.
so shutup with your ill informed childish comments,
haters look like the biggest noobs.

February 1st, 2009 at 6:51 am
I bet Rv2 win’s A3 and Chad win’s San diego…who’s up next..Bubba deserve to win when he’s on…effortless…Reed is faster this year than last year though..
February 1st, 2009 at 8:12 am
Well put Josh…no excuse needed! There is no shame in defeat…and we all know Chad never EVER gives up! Still has the points lead remember….
February 1st, 2009 at 9:26 am
not for long.
if bubba wins 2 more races they become tied and after that bubba will take the points lead and win every race for the rest of the series and prove that chad has no place in american supercross.
February 1st, 2009 at 9:55 am
REED sucks..BUBBA is the best of all time
February 1st, 2009 at 10:36 am
Did Jason Lawrence race?
February 1st, 2009 at 11:14 am
alright dudes, when you become pro, then you can talk smack about the riders, but until then just enjoy the racing
February 1st, 2009 at 11:15 am
alright dudes, when you become pro, then we will see who is talking smack about who, but until then just enjoy the racing
February 1st, 2009 at 11:21 am
No place in American Supercross, of course not. He´s only won two championships?!?
That more than most riders on the gate.
February 1st, 2009 at 12:10 pm
thanks for having the race report up so quick, faster than another site!
February 1st, 2009 at 12:16 pm
did j-law seriously not make ANOTHER main?? what a champion! I guess the anger he had built up jsut wasnt enough to be in the top 50% of the riders.
February 1st, 2009 at 12:17 pm
how does chad reed have no place in american suppercross. Im pretty sure that he has already won two titles. the way you are saying that means that no one behind stewart has a place in american suppercross. so grow up a little bit and stop saying stupid things like that.
February 1st, 2009 at 12:30 pm
BORING! Snore…snore…snore… Say good-bye to the TV ratings you were hoping for this year.
February 1st, 2009 at 12:58 pm
Jason was hospitalized due to food poisoning and according to AMA rules, if you are hospitalized the same day as the race, it makes you ineligible to compete.
February 1st, 2009 at 1:05 pm
Tedesco is up next. Duhh! That guy works so hard and he has gotten great finishes this year. He deserves a win.
February 1st, 2009 at 1:16 pm
Yes Chad has won 2 titles but if you are a supercross fan then you will know that in both of those cases the reigning champion was out do to injury. Chad still has a little to prove when it comes to being the best.
February 1st, 2009 at 1:19 pm
Track SUCKED By the way. Worst yet this year. Planning for rain again or what?
February 1st, 2009 at 1:49 pm

February 1st, 2009 at 1:58 pm

February 1st, 2009 at 2:00 pm

February 1st, 2009 at 2:23 pm
was it just me or was erin bates mutaliting those interviews on the box tonight?!! 1. she calls trey jake! 2. she tells weimer how he cracks under pressure after just holding dungey up the whole moto for the win!! 3. she ask weimer how the battle was for the lead with canard!! WOW…classic
February 1st, 2009 at 2:25 pm
these kids are the worst. can we get some people that seriously have a ligit conversation. love transworldmx but you should have a age limit for posting.
February 1st, 2009 at 2:28 pm
Agreed!
February 1st, 2009 at 2:29 pm
Does anybody know what happened to Ferry? did he get hurt in his heat and not race in the LCQ?
February 1st, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Get off reeds nuts! Pretty sure your not out there every weekend racing! So all you haters take reeds nuts out of your mouth!
February 1st, 2009 at 2:49 pm
Didnt chad go to the hospital last year after he went over the bars? Not defending anyone here, just curious?
February 1st, 2009 at 2:59 pm
im not a reed fan either, but i do agree with everyone else, until i can beet him, i cannot say he sucks
February 1st, 2009 at 5:01 pm
guess whos #1 in overalls? hahA REEEEEED!
February 1st, 2009 at 5:24 pm
amen brother
February 1st, 2009 at 7:05 pm
I’m sick of these lame rhythm sections, bring back the long technical sections. This looked like an amateur track. roll double double, they were 3 sections that they were rolling.
February 1st, 2009 at 7:11 pm
i agree the tracks this year suck a$$ so far. and as far as reed in Detroit last year i believe he just went to the asterisk medical trailer…they have x-ray machines and everything in there…they said j-law was on IV and that made him ineligible to com eback and ride. throw away year for him now, might as well ride 450 rest of the year and focus on outdoors now
February 1st, 2009 at 7:20 pm
yea cuz everyone thats not the best of all time sucks….they should all quit so that there will be no moto-x what so ever…..take bubba out of the equation and it would be some exciting racing in the sx class….might be as interesting as the lites
February 1st, 2009 at 7:21 pm
You guys are killing it with supercross stories and photos! thanks
February 1st, 2009 at 7:54 pm
wow, Reed having no place in American supercross…yeah you’re right. i mean he was only able to beat 18 of his 19 competitors on the gate. that was a stupid remark.
February 1st, 2009 at 11:36 pm
I disagree, comments are fun for everyone, would you leave a comment if there wasnt so much controversy?
February 1st, 2009 at 11:37 pm
if that is true then i wish him a speedy recovery!
February 1st, 2009 at 11:43 pm
of course you can say he sucks, nobody who can actually ride a motorcycle is going to be wasting their time here leaving comments, so who cares. Let the kids have some fun. I bet half the people who leave comments here don’t actually mean what they say anyways. so why dont you get all these “haters” nuts out of your mouth and start some trash talk of your own instead of defending people.
this comment was for motofreak20, not ronnie, sorry ronnie nuthin but love for ya brother i just clicked the wrong reply box, hope were still cool man!
February 2nd, 2009 at 12:58 am
ahahha ONE good thing about reeds switch to suzuki… he just doesnt cry as much…go JBS =]
February 2nd, 2009 at 2:22 am
i hope grant can hang in and hold down the 3rd spot over all for the season, kids crazy good it would be sick to see him take a 3rd in his first 450 season
February 2nd, 2009 at 7:27 am
Hey, where’s the girls of supercross this week?
February 2nd, 2009 at 7:29 am
Tim Ferry??????????????? any info on timmy
February 2nd, 2009 at 7:32 am
jeff Alessi ….. what has happened to him !!!
February 2nd, 2009 at 10:09 am
We need to remember that Yes, maybe stewart did win this race. But let’s remember the more consistant racer…It’s only time before Reedy challenges Stewart and #7 throws it away. After that all reed has to do is take podiums.
February 2nd, 2009 at 10:15 am
PS: Reed will start doing better. Once Bubba doesn’t get a holeshot, it will be a whole different game…I know Reedy, he’s practicing right now to get that extra speed to be #1 next week.
February 2nd, 2009 at 10:27 am
you know i sit here and read this and how everyone thinks reed is so much faster. he is fast but what would you expect when all he does is train for supercross. he doesnt do a season of outdoors so all he does is practice supercross. its a shame though cause stewart won outdoors and now he is gonna beat reed who cant even compete outdoors anymore cause he is tired of losing. and the whole thing about reed just needing podiums is BS cause if stewart keeps winning that puts him in the lead after 3 races. do the math. so keep cheering for a guy who just practices supercross and thats his only talent
February 2nd, 2009 at 11:27 am
Timmy didn’t qualify for the main event.
February 2nd, 2009 at 12:57 pm
Stewart will be racing supercross only in 2009.
Same goes for Reed.
It’s a shame for Stewart since he went undefeated in 08, and it would be great to watch Stewart and Villopoto battling outdoors.
As for Reed being consistent in 2nd places, well if he can keep it in two wheels, he will end up with the title, Stewart already had a DNF and is defenetly more likely to have another one.
Not hoping that Stewart DNF’s but history speaks for itself. If Stewart keeps it in two wheels, no one will beat him.
February 2nd, 2009 at 1:03 pm
“Jason was hospitalized due to food poisoning and according to AMA rules, if you are hospitalized the same day as the race, it makes you ineligible to compete.”
Must’ve been from all that crow he’s been eating lately regarding Dungey…
February 2nd, 2009 at 1:48 pm
there arent too many riders who like outdoors anymore, i heard that someone was gonna start a summer sx series and do away with outdoors all together
February 2nd, 2009 at 2:02 pm
my name is spelled seely. no e before the y
thought i clear things up=] thanks!
February 2nd, 2009 at 2:22 pm
Sorry about that Cole. I changed it. Nice work this weekend by the way.
February 2nd, 2009 at 2:41 pm
amen, dont think i could have put it any better.
February 2nd, 2009 at 4:19 pm
to do away with outdoors all together would be retarded they would lose there whole amateur base.. you dont see the kids rideing 65’s on a supercross track..super cross was an after thought if anything they should do away with supercross and get back to the roots and just have nationals..
February 2nd, 2009 at 4:23 pm
i hate bubba but thats true as sh1t about reed comin up with a different excuse every damn week!
February 2nd, 2009 at 4:41 pm
It’s still early in the season and you bubba fans think he has it wrapped up all ready that’s funny. Reed has been there and running that pace. Watch Reed 2009 supercross champ
February 2nd, 2009 at 6:43 pm
atleast reed is humble and not all but hurt about it
February 2nd, 2009 at 6:51 pm
It’s all good! and thank you.
February 2nd, 2009 at 7:27 pm
Actually it’s not going to the hospital that make it so you are not able to ride, it’s because he had an iv put in.
February 2nd, 2009 at 7:31 pm
who’s putting nuts in their mouth? can I go next.
February 2nd, 2009 at 10:09 pm
first of all you dont know him, sorry. and second, thats a completely obvious statement “he’s practicing right now to get that extra speed to be #1 next week” really?!??! thats good to know, all this time i thought he was practicing to go just a little slower so maybe he could finish 4th or something. crazy!
February 3rd, 2009 at 2:54 am
I think stewart is alot faster than Reed, when he’s on his game. Otherwise Reed has every chance of winning the series against the favourite. Stewart seems to be a bit softer than Reed when it comes to injury and falls and I think this is because Reed wants it more. Should be a good battle by the end of the championship.
February 3rd, 2009 at 9:53 am
Hey Cole Seely, You did amazing on saturday staying up with the top riders and showing them you have what it takes. Awesome riding.
Quick question: Do you know a guy named Cory Fear?
February 3rd, 2009 at 7:08 pm
The Outdoor circut is amazing i go to a few every season it’s great to watch the riders have to go 30 minutes plus two laps it realy shows you who trains harder than the other riders as far as conditioning. I would hate to see them get rid of outdoors plus supercross is so fixed now a days.
February 4th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
IF REED COULD GET OUT FRONT… HE’D JUST PULL AWAY FROM BUBBA. CUZ WHEN BUBBA AINT OUT FRONT, HE DOES WHAT JEREMY MCGRATH USED TO DO. HE INTIMIDATES YOU AND GETS OVER EXCITED AND STARTS RIDING PAST HIS LIMITS. CHAD REED IS MUCH MORE CONSISTENT AND MORE FLUENT OF A SUPERCROSS RIDER WHEN HE’S OUT FRONT.
February 4th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Cole, that’s on me. I did the race report. You looked strong out there man; keep it up so we can start spelling it correctly!
February 5th, 2009 at 2:50 am
yea im sure every1 is jus gonna take turns winning????? right after i poop a unicorn
February 5th, 2009 at 2:52 am
well it wouldnt really be exciting.. same thing happened last year and reed basicly dominated
February 5th, 2009 at 2:54 am
“Actually it’s not going to the hospital that make it so you are not able to ride, it’s because he had an iv put in.”
finally someone who knows what he’s talking about
February 5th, 2009 at 2:57 am
although chad reed never beat james or rc in a championship… he has beat both of them in single races. we have seen glimpses of his speed and consistencey. now if he could put it all together against james
February 5th, 2009 at 2:58 am
im not sure what happened in his heat race but i do know he got caught up in a hole shot pile up in the LCQ
February 8th, 2009 at 10:14 am
justin brayton and shorty deserve a win more than tedesco
February 12th, 2009 at 11:03 am
well maybe that explains why chad reed has been getting bad starts but catching up from nearly last place every race. Chad has it in him to win this year, so after this season we will c what u have to say lol =)
