San Diego Supercross Press Day
As the week winds down and the first-ever Military Appreciation Race of Monster Energy Supercross approaches, crews put the finishing touches on this weekend’s track today at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California, and press day came and went before the rain clouds rolled in. Five of the sport’s top race teams arrived at the stadium early this morning to meet and talk with local press, and later in the day eight riders including Eli Tomac, Broc Tickle, Josh Hill, Malcolm Stewart, Shane McElrath, Ivan Tedesco, Jason Anderson, and Mike Alessi were invited to spin a few partial laps on a segment of the course for the press’ cameras.
Feld Motor Sports also announced yesterday that this weekend’s race and every remaining round of Monster Energy AMA Supercross will be broadcasted live to the 175 military bases around the world, including U.S. installations, U.S. embassies, and other U.S. consulates, through the American Forces Network (AFN). The sixth round of the 2014 season in San Diego will honor the over one million service men and women in the armed forces with the Military Appreciation Race, in support of Operation Homefront, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides assistance to service members and their families with a focus on wounded veterans who served on or after 9/11.
“It’s an honor to have the dedicated members of the United States Military supporting Monster Energy Supercross,” said Todd Jendro, vice president of two wheel operations, Feld Motor Sports. “This weekend’s military-themed race in San Diego, and every race the remainder of the season, will be brought live to military bases around the world, and on behalf of Feld Motor Sports, we want to say thank you to every active and non-active military member.”
