Scott Sheak’s Last European Diary

Whew, what a week it’s been! Sorry I haven’t updated my diary for awhile, but I’ve had some crazy things going on in my life. After a few races in this year’s World Championships, I’m over it and back for the Nationals!

Things got ugly with my sponsor, Martin Racing, over in Italy, and it was a nightmare. I never received a real contract, wasn’t getting paid like I was supposed to, and worst of all, the team wouldn’t even let me test, so my bikes were piles!

The most frustrating part was the fact that I knew I had the speed (which I proved by taking the pole position a few weeks ago), but my bikes just weren’t competitive enough to go the distance. It wasn’t that they were super slow, it’s just that the suspension was so bad I couldn’t hold on for more than a few laps at a time. Living in Italy was great, but I must say that I’m happy to be back home!

I flew in on Tuesday, and at around 9:30 p.m., Garth from TWMX came and picked me up from LAX. My wife Erica and I will be staying with him for awhile until I can find an apartment (thanks, Garth!!!)

Things are going great now that I’m back. At first, I was a little scared that I only had about two weeks until the start of the Nationals to find a ride, but things went smooth and I hooked up with my old buddy Kenny Watson from Plano Honda. It looks like I’ll be riding on his team for the remainder of the year, so I’m pretty psyched. I’ve been riding everyday to try and get the bike dialed in, and it’s great to see them putting in the time and effort to help me, unlike my last team. Well, I better go to sleep; I have to get up early and keep training for Glen Helen–wish me luck!
