Davalos & Stewart Post Top Times | 2014 Toronto SX Practice Report

Practice has just wrapped in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where round twelve of the 2014 Monster Energy Supercross Series is taking place at the Rogers Centre. The lone race held outside the continental United States, this stop is known for its unique soil, deteriorating track conditions in the main events, and a layout that fills as much of the floor as permitted. A number of storylines played out through the afternoon, with both points leaders in the 450 and 250 championships experiencing issues that could wreck the title pursuits.

First came the sudden illness of Ryan Villopoto, who missed track walk to rest in the Monster Energy Kawasaki rig and was then taken to the hospital with severe stomach issues the team is calling a possible case of food poisoning. He missed all three practice sessions while at the hospital, but since he is ranked within the top ten in points, will receive a provisional for last gate pick in a heat race later tonight. The issue now is if he will be cleared to ride by doctors and if he would feel comfortable racing with no time on the track.

The other setback was dealt to Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rookie Adam Cianciarulo, when a crash in the first timed session of the day popped his shoulder out of its socket. The Asterisk Medical team put the injury back in place and wrapped the area, which allowed Cianciarulo to ride the last practice of the day. Although he never pulled off, his status is still questionable for tonight.

RCH/Soaring Eagle/Dodge/Suzuki’s Broc Tickle went down in the first timed practice of the day, and the violent crash forced a red flag for the session. He was taken to a nearby hospital with injury, the extent of which we have not yet confirmed.

Tonight’s racing will be broadcast live on FOX SPORTS 1, with coverage beginning at 7:30PM EASTERN/4:30 PACIFIC time. Check your local listings for more infomation.

25o Timed Qualifying

The afternoon was eventful for Martin Davalos, as the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider experienced a wild crash in the untimed practice, when he tried to scrub a single, lost control and was shot over the awaiting berm into oncoming traffic, ultimately collecting another rider in the process. Unfazed by the accident and with a repaired bike in the final session of the day, he went on to post the quickest lap of the class with a 50.982. Justin Bogle started the final session of the day rather slowly and was buried in the chart, but the GEICO Honda rider upped his pace in the waning moments with a 51.415 lap and launched to second place overall. Jeremy Martin continues to climb back from issues early in the season, and the Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha rider spent much of the final practice at the top of the board before ultimately finishing third place with a 51.598. GEICO Honda’s Matt Bisceglia was strong through all three practice sessions and the rookie claimed fourth for his efforts with a 51.771 time, besting Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett by a mere .324 seconds.
